WNRF Flange Design for 1660 mm ID with Design Pressure 130 bar

Dear All, Thank you for comments. I attach the files in pdf and word. I have chosen 88.9 mm bolt diameter and circumferential spacing is 146.25 where as minimum is 180.97 mm. http://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=4d0405b0-9758-49d2-83dd-870ff10017da&file=Graphics.pdf

WNRF Flange Design for 1660 mm ID with Design Pressure 130 bar

I am struggling to design the flange with 130 barg pressure. MOC is SA 182 F51. Bolt material is SA 320 L7M. Gasket material SDS SPW. Design code is ASME VIII div 2 If I provide sufficient number bolts, bolt spacing is less than recommended. I tried with various bolt sizes ranging from 1 " to...

I never heard of this. My opinion is that it is uselesss; I am not sure though.

ASME Section VIII D1 Interpretation UG-84(h)(2) last paragraph

As I read, the paragraph is not specifically for P11 materials. It says that for P11 materials , the rules are additional to some XXX rules of section IX. For your other query, you keep looking.

Sec VIII Div 1 Appendix 14

Design of flat head is not related Appx 14. Refer UG 34 . Z = 3.4 -2.4 d/D. In your case, it is 1

Sec VIII Div 1 Appendix 14

I can definitely say that your approach would not be conservative. I suggest you use small span and Z factor(defined in UG 34) as correction for rectangular shape.

    Pressure Thrust

jtseng123, As per my understanding, the thrust will always act whether upstream piping is straight or curved. The same concept you can see in appendix 2 caluclation of flange(Hydro static end force). I also experienced the same that when pressure thrust is accounted for, most of the nozzles...

Joint efficiency for dished end thickness calculation

gr2vessels, This is can be used for non Hemisphercial heads only. Incase of Hemi sphercial heads 0.85 joint efficiency to be used; I just referred the code.

Structural stability of unfired pressure vessel tmin for low pressure cylinders

Something like above formula appears in shell DEP or any other specification. This is the minimum thickness prescribed apart from the requirements by pressure. A very simple equation is available for calculating the thickness of shell under internal pressure of as per UG 27(c) of ASME VIII...

NPS 14 Thru 24 CL2500 RTJ Ring Gaskets

bwfs, As far as appendix 2 is concerned, rating of the gasket (dimensional standard) does not matter. It is concerned with ID and OD and gasket properties. You can use any dimensions of gasket (non standard) with a condition that the gasket should lie between flange id and bolting. My...

NPS 14 Thru 24 CL2500 RTJ Ring Gaskets

It seams that you are at basic level of designing. Gasket does not have pressure rating truly as far flange design concerned. I suggest that you perform a manual calculation of flange as per Appendix 2. Then you will have more clarity.
