Elements near Cohesive elements deform asymmetrically in a three point bend 2D model

Dear All, I am modelling a 3 point bend specimen with Cohesive elements tied to the upper and lower halves of the specimen in 2d. The problem is that the CZ elements perform properly only for a combination of element sizes, i.e. a combination of element size of structure and CZ elements, for...

I want to use GTN with cleavage criteria with uSDFLD subroutine

Dear All, In brief my problem is that in the axissymmetric model of a ball pressing a disk; I am getting load extracted as reaction force at RP of ball is higher than the experimental values. The material property is correct; extrapolated to 1 strain contact is also supposedly correct penalty...

I want to use GTN with cleavage criteria with uSDFLD subroutine

Dear All, I would like to have a simulation in which I can model both ductile and cleavage damage. For that I want GTN damage to run for some time and then I am planning to define a criteria based on f* of GTN to define cleavage. or if I want to implement GTN without using porous material...

Assigning material property based on stresses

I have a body of steel in which based on shear hydride will nucleate, so i have created orphan mesh and a code to assign hydride properties but this code should take the data from results in each increment as explicit algorithm.

Assigning material property based on stresses

I am modeling a body in which based on max shear stress the elements will change their material property. Please suggest how can I do it? Can it be done without using subroutines( by python scripts) if not which subroutine, I should follow. Any help will be appreciated.

    FEM coding of solids

Hello everyone :), I am trying to write a code for FEA of solid structures (steels). Initially I am planning to get nodes coordinates and connectivities from ABAQUS input file and solve them/ For that I am considering 20 noded brick element with 6 dofs per node (three displ and three...

FEM analysis of helical springs, with pitch angle, lenght , diameter

yes exactly,I too did not understand that whats the point in compressing but not deforming plastically....... but they r saying that they do not want much change in length and accrding to them, in machine the displc is say 12mm so they r comressing to 11mm so they sud not have problem, but i...

    setting of springs

Thanks for your reply, i got some idea about what i needed from your reply, i guess. provider of spring has done solid compression( not exactly but has compressed to 12mm ( to get a free length of 37mm apprx) well should not give these details here. he compressed it thrice i guess, but what i...

FEM analysis of helical springs, with pitch angle, lenght , diameter

well, i will first explain my task I am working on very high cycle fatigue behavior of helical compression springs, right now I m involved in FEM modeling of it. I am not concerned with manufacturing. we have a special machine where we put around 576 springs of different rate/stress levels, and...

FEM analysis of helical springs, with pitch angle, lenght , diameter

hey mike, thanks for your answer, but I have grounded surface at the top and bottom of the spring and there i can have pressure, but ja its actually a different machine in which 300 springs are being tested together and i have been going through many dramas with these springs. as you said you...

    setting of springs

hey, i am working on VHCF behavior of springs, and i wanna know that why exactly the spring has to be given a set? my springs were set by the manufacturer and thus it should not have change in length after compressing but it had a change after compression ??? i cannot think as the spring is...

FEM analysis of helical springs, with pitch angle, lenght , diameter

hi all, I have to analyse, by FEM, the stress and stroke change of spring, in compression fatigue. please help me, how to make a cylindrical structure of spring in ABAQUS?? 2. how to set pitch length, angle and the biggest question, 3. how to set pressure which is not exactly on the...
