    Overlay WPS?

Are you guys following QW-453 Corrosion-Resistant Overlay or Hard-Facing Overlay?

    Overlay WPS?

Can I develop an overlay WPS using QW-451.1? For instance it would be a GMAW P1 to P1 or P8 to P8. Is this possible without actually welding up a groove?

    Boretech WPS and WOPQ

I will be qualifying new WPS for P1, P8 and P6gr4. I will be using GMAW with short circuit transfer. Since these WPS will be used for weld build up only, should I follow QW-453 corrosion-resistant overlay or QW-453 hard-facing overlay?

    Boretech WPS and WOPQ

I know the welder operator needs to be qualified per QW-484B, but can I take a WPS that was qualified manually and use it with the Boretech welder? Or does it need its own WPS?

    Boretech WPS and WOPQ

In my situation, the Boretech will be used for weld repair and weld build up only. The welding performed will be like an overlay weld. How should I set up the weld test, if the welding performed will be like an overlay?

    Boretech WPS and WOPQ

I will be using the GMAW process, the thickness will range from 1/8" to 2". The welding will be performed on pump impellers mostly. I hope this info helps.

    Boretech WPS and WOPQ

Hey guys, I will be qualifying a new WPS and WOPQ using a Boretech welder. So far I've done only plate WPS, and am a little unfamiliar with pipe and automated equipment. What is the best size diameter and thickness combo to qualify a WPS and WOPQ simultaneously with a Boretech? This will be done...

    ASME WPS with cast iron

I'm actually reviewing a customers WPS from Asia, the welding was done with SMAW

    ASME WPS with cast iron

Can you qualify a WPS with a cast iron ie; A439 per ASME section IX? A WPS per ASME requires side bend tests which I don't think would pass. What are my options on qualifying this type of material?

    ASME base metal welding?

If my WPS is qualified for 3/16" to 8" base metal thickness, can I do a repair weld on a base metal that's 14" thick? As long as I stay within the 8" limit? Or do I need a different WPS which would have 14" within the range?

    How many Charpy V specimens?

If I qualify two processes together on plate, GMAW for root and FCAW for filler, will two test plates be enough for Tensile Test, Bend Test and Toughness Test? Thanks for any help

    ASME vs MIL-STD 248

What are the main differences between these two standards?

    How many Charpy V specimens?

I'm using ER80S-D2 and E81T1-Ni1. So do I need 3 total tests, or 3 tests for HAZ, 3 for weld metal, 3 for base plate?

    How many Charpy V specimens?

I searched the forums but could not find an answer. I'm qualifying a WPS with GMAW and FCAW on 1-1/2" P1 gr2 plate. GMAW root and FCAW filler and cover passes. Charpy testing will be at -50 F. This will be done per B31.3. From what I've read, it looks like I will need 3 specimens per set of...

Welder qualification with new weld procedure

Great information as always guys! Is anyone familiar with the ACCP Program?

Welder qualification with new weld procedure

The welder who performs the welding on a new procedure qualification, is the welder automatically qualified to weld on this new WPS? Can a WPQ be written for this welder, using these test results?

Preheat of base metals in ASME?

Stanweld, This welding was done on a diffusor for a pump and the welder preheated the whole part. It was a minor weld repair, only needed localized preheat. Because the whole part was preheated, warpage occurred. So I'm trying to explain to the welders that in some cases it is not necessary to...

Preheat of base metals in ASME?

Great stuff so far guys. Kiwi I'm welding P6 CA6NM with GTAW and preheat of 200 degrees. Ambient temp is 70 degrees. I'm not sure what fabrication code I'm working to. Where do I find - ASME B31.3 Clause 330.1.4 Preheat Zone states "The preheat zone shall extend at least 25 mm (1 in) beyond each...
