    GUN SIGHT STEEL

Just thought I would get the opinions of some Materials Engineers, What Steel do you feel would be the best for Firearm Pistol sights? It needs to be strong enough not to get bent or damaged when dropped, not so hard that it is brittle and breaks when dropped from waist height. Also not harder...

    Straight Spring Help

As you can see from the top view the green hinge piece is setting at 0 degrees, flat against the stationary blue part, or you can rotate it out to 90 degrees. you can see the radius on the corner of the green hinge part it is .003 larger than it can be for a net fit rotation, there for if you...

    Straight Spring Help

Sure, it is a regular 3 piece hinge, upper and lower stationary, with the center pivoting. the wire is the shaft for the hinge. here is the difference. the hinge opens from 0-90 degrees. it uses a pieces of thicker plate material. the pivot plate has the fulcrum corner rounded over, but it is...

    Straight Spring Help

OK, Im not a materials Engineer so i want to make sure I dont mess things up. If I look for 304 1/2 hard wire or 302 3/4-full hard wire. Am i to assume this is a spring temper? and the material isn't just hard? Do I need to be looking for the parameter ASTM A666? I checked the net for a minute...

    Straight Spring Help

I am moving this thread to this forum, I didnt see it before. Hello all, I am trying to find if a material exists in this state. I am looking for a Stainless steel wire (.078-.08")that has spring properties. I have ordered 303/304 stainless wire with spring temper, but it doesn't seem strong...

    Brass Burner Bell Material?

AMPCOLOY 940 Looks good, Ill have to price it out though. Most companies I can tell are either stamping sheets, or casting, and possibly machining the casting. Currently I am just going to machine the part on a lathe and mill, so extruded bar stock is needed.

    Brass Burner Bell Material?

Every manufacture is using some type of Brass or Copper Alloy, there are a couple reasons. Aluminum would be good due to high thermal conductivity and light weight, but has a low melting point, wont work. Titanium is light weight but, has a low thermal conductivity and is expensive. Brass/Copper...

    Brass Burner Bell Material?

Hello, I am trying to get a opinion on what material would be best used for a Burner bell on a camp stove, most of them seem to use some type of brass, i didnt think one of the free machining brasses like 360 would work due to the lead, and the bell get extremely hot. Ill attach some images...

    Copper Alloy for Burner

here is a link to one of the products, as you can see the burner bell (so its called)is made of some type of brass, i dont know which kind would be best used. i would assume the cheapest for production 360 brass?, thats what we machine parts from here most of the time, but 360 has a small amount...

    Copper Alloy for Burner

Hello I am designing a burner for a packpack stove, the burner needs a hi thermal conductivity, good corrosion resistance, as light weight as possible. Most you see are made of some type of Copper Alloy. Which one would you recommend? I would love to use Aluminum because of the weight, but I...
