    Functional CNC Tool Crib

Hey everyone. So I am trying to find the best way to organize all of our tooling in our CNC department. We have a fairly large tool crib, but it is currently a total mess. We have 4 setup people, all with their own tool boxes with many random boring bars, drills, collets, etc inside. But we also...

Chucking Up Brass with no marks.

Hey everyone. Thanks for the replies. I have done my research, passed it up to the higher ups to see what they decide. Not going to go with any homemade things, because production is quite high. About a couple thousand a couple times a year. We will either go with the pot chuck idea, or end up...

Chucking Up Brass with no marks.

Hey Everyone, Thanks for the quick and thought out replies. Mike I like your thinking about a pot chuck, something that I completely gapped on. I believe that something like that would work, except that we are worrying about the part slipping at all. There are 4 cast tabs on the ID near the...

Chucking Up Brass with no marks.

Hey Guys. I have a Brass Casting that needs to be turned on both faces and the OD. The ID is approximately 4" (has a 1 degree draft angle though). I was going to just use an ID chuck (with steps so I can do the back face), but have been told that no chucking marks are allowed (which makes no...

    Sub Spindle Pickoff RPM.

Hi guys This is more af a preference and job specifice thing, but when picking off with a sub spindle do you usually have the spindles turning (synced of course) and/or what are the scenarios/advantages to spinning rather than not. Thanks Jordan

Using ISO/ANSI 6 material classification, where does brass fit in?

Hi, when looking in a tooling book, you have your standard 6 different coloured boxes indicating the type of material being cut. P-Steel M-Stainless Steel K-Cast Iron S-Heat resistant super alloys N-Aluminum H-Hard Part. I use alot of Copper, Brass and Non ferrous materials and just wondering...

    Windows 7 on ST.

Just to let people know I have been running ST1 now for a few weeks with Windows 7 and other than the 2 small inconviniences I stated above, everything still is running great with no other flaws yet. Thanks Jordan

    Drilling Multiple Diameters.

Hi MRSSPOCK Again, I didnt have a specific part in mind but tolerances usually run from about .002 to .010 total depending on the part. So not overly tight, some more than others. That was also my train of thought using 1 centre drill for the first drill and none after that. But wouldnt this...

Insert feedrate and depth of cut.

Mike- I like your thinking. Give it all it has. I just wasnt sure if this would, in your past experiences, dramatically decrease the tool life, or have any other negative effects. Or else everybody would always take the highest recommendeds for roughing. Saber- I never had plans of going...

    Drilling Multiple Diameters.

Hmm, never really took into account the power behind my axis's and spindle. I dont believe that any of our parts will be a problem because most holes are smaller than 3/4" but if any larger jobs come up this will be definately be handy information. Thanks Bill Jordan

Insert feedrate and depth of cut.

Just a general past experiences question. I know this has many variables but when machining, If the ISCAR book gives a range for feedrate and depth of cut for an insert, what percentage of that range would you use when roughing. Mostly turning, but milling answers are very helpful too! Ex. CNMG...

    Drilling Multiple Diameters.

Saber, we do use step drills for alot of applications, this was for all of the times without. Thanks though. Mike, this is opposite to how I would have done it, trying to reduce how much force that I need to push the drills through, but that is like you said the manual way of thinking and your...

    Drilling Multiple Diameters.

Hi. When Drilling multiple holes on a lathe, all to different depths, is it always smallest hole to largest hole or is it sometimes beneficial to start with the larger holes first to save the smaller drill or for any other reasons (concentricity, finish, etc) Thanks Jordan

    Windows 7 on ST.

So a few minor inconviniences to report. Both on drafts. One is the diametrical centre mark only leaves a very small centre mark, wont go full size. The other is that new sheets keep slowly getting added with different templates, but a quick delete and were off running again.

    Windows 7 on ST.

Seems to be running just fine now, that was the only problem I encountered before, I have done a few things in draft as well, all seemingly fine. I will keep you posted if I find any more glitches but so far so good. All I did was take Pellaken's advice. Turn of User Account control before...

Beachcomber, you are a genious! Seems to be working spot on, I will let everybody know if I encounter anymore glitches. Thanks Jordan

    Windows 7 on ST.

Ok, so I needed to switch to windows 7, just did it today. Pellaken I took your advice and it loaded great, but one big glitch is getting me, not sure if there is a way around it. Drawing files load up great, so do the part files, but when the part file loads, the part screen (not any toolbars...

    Flipping Drawings, keeping dimensions.

It almost takes as long to reposition all of the dimensions as putting them back on, but exactly what you said the prefixes and tolerances probably take the longest to do, since most of them are unique, and this cuts out that step. I would love a command to mirror the part with the dimensions...

    Flipping Drawings, keeping dimensions.

So, I tried and it definately works, the only thing is if you had your dimension lines attached to the top for example, now they are attached to the bottom, and you have to reposition all of the dimensions, but still better than nothing.

    Flipping Drawings, keeping dimensions.

That is what I was looking for. I knew there had to be a way. After lunch I will try one and see how long it takes to fudge everything back into place. Took me about 2 hours to redraw everything for the first one, so if this cuts my time down at all, im happy. Oh, and it was the X axis, sorry...
