Piping support bridge design and supply

As biginch has said, it is A LOT easier, and most likely cheaper, to find a horizontal drilling contractor than it is to build a bridge spanning 600 ft. One of the issues is also the layout of what you are trying to span. More info is required before we can give you a true "best option" opinion...

Balancing of rotor suspended on magnetic bearings

This is a tricky question, I have never seen it done, but theoretically I assume that it could be. However, any dissimilar material will affect the e-mag field. You need to make sure the weights are made of the identical material used on the rotor. And the weights need to be flush, if not it...

Crude Desalting. Power and Chemical Consumption

There are several different methods used to desalt incoming crude. I am familiar with both demulsifiers and centrifuges. For demulsifiers, check out this patent article (look at the punlishing date, its been around for a couple decades). http://www.freepatentsonline.com/4684457.html I also...

    Pipeline Blasting Video

Was it just vertically drilling every so many meters and inserting explosives? of was that the work of a ditch witch/ vermeer navigator? William Hammett Synergetic Engineering Consultants

IR Detection for Electric Arc Furnace

Im no EE, however, I do know quite a bit on hydraulics and thermo. Wouldn't the simplest solution just be to fix the water issue? Install a small activated carbon filter and water softener to keep the jacketed cables from fouling due to high mineral content in the well water. William Hammett...

Time to empty a ruptured pipeline

Yes it will pull a slight vacuum, but only temporarily, and the amount of vaporization will be minimal, if not negligible. The pressure will drop and very quickly, the level of crude oil in the pipleine will not cover "top to bottom". Therefore- no vacuum. However, your assumption that the...

Time to empty a ruptured pipeline

What's in the pipeline? Where are the pumps located? As you know liquids are noncompressible. If you are talking abt pressure and not head pressure, upstream product will increase in pressure as velocity decreases due to the pumps shutting down. As you know from Newton, an object in motion stays...

    gas sweetening rules of thumbs

Is it going through this process as a liquid or a vapor? What is incoming feedstock temp and chemical makeup(roughly)?

Peak power drawn by solonoid valve.

Your question can be quite confusing and there is no given answer for the details you provided. MOST small solenoid valves have a "live zero" reading of around 4 mA, but this is not always the case. Where are you located? What manufacturer of solenoid valves are you considering?

    Hydrogen Valves for Generators

In most plants it is requirement to get all valves tested before going into service of explosive gases or liquids. It is a safety concern. Make sure you do it right.

    Cost of hot tapping

That's a very relative question. What is the percentage of phases in the two phase flow? What is flow rate? How remote are you located?

Three Mile Island - Stuck open PORV

About a year ago I spoke with someone at Ferris engineering on the matter of failing PORV's. He himself said that the PORV sales have descresed rapidly over the past decade. They are useful in some applications, but I would much rather have a mechanically controlled relief valve than one that...

    Wall mounted crane design

Keep in mind, you cannot use the entire length(in the formula) if you are trying to look at it as a cantilever pole. Does this make sense? It's hard to convey through text. Also keep in mind wind loads, and ice loads(if applicable). Assuming you will be using a winch for the vertical lifting...

    Wall mounted crane design

Are you referring to the horizontal I-beam you are trying to size? BTW, kudos on the nice conceptual design, most people scribble on computer paper and hastily scan and upload it. Hard to decipher.

    Knockout Tank

Mbeychok I am aware that my warning does not apply to entrained liquid kock-out drums in gas service. However, the OP questions was What is a knockout drum. The exaple he used did use gas service, yes, but thats not a knockout drums sole purpose. Yes, my example was of liquid flashing off...

    Pumping Latex

I tend to agree with composite pro and recomend the double diaphragm pump for two reasons. Very cheap and very easy to dismantle and clean, especially if you have a 90 days time frame between unloading operations.

    Knockout Tank

Correction- the energy realeased from the phase change (only when involving fluids)

    Knockout Tank

It is also a way to "kill two birds with one stone" in a sense. It removes most of the entrained lquid, but also allows solids to settle out. Be mindfull about temperture and pressure entering the knockout drum however, because if hot or pressurized fluids enter a knockout drum, the lost...

use gas lift pump on BP Macondo blowout?

All of us in industry know about relief wells, but here is a crude video from my undergrad alma mater explaining the matter. This will be a good visual reference to those of you who have friends that don't quite understand the process...
