Swapping transformers would probably be the best plan, rather than cutting a hole in one. But my project is to find a tool that can cut a hole, so I have to find out the best way to do that.
Thank you everyone for the ideas. I'm not terribly familiar with machining and cutting so just having the right key words to search will help a lot. I think the plasma cutter is right out. I will look into the fly cutter, trepanning tool, and router.
Ornerynorsk, sometimes we get work with...
Tomwalz, the tool is needed to cut holes into transformers. And to answer your questions:
How many holes? The tool wouldn't be needed often, just for special cases. Just one hole per transformer, maybe 15-20 times a year.
In the shop or in the field? It will be in the field, since the...
I have a project where I need to find a portable cutting tool and it has been difficult for me to find what my boss wants me to get. The tool needs to do the following:
- Cut through steel, up to 5/8" thick
- Cut holes up to 12" in diameter
- Cause no sparks, or very few
- Create no metal...
Ha, ShaggyPE, it's usually not so bad, but sometimes talking to this one guy is like talking to a wall.
CorBlimeyLimey, that makes sense, and I think I got it worked out now.
Nevermind, my coworker is an idiot and didn't know what he was talking about. I can't open the drawing from the model automatically because it's impossible to have that links since the names of the model and drawing are different. He was driving me crazy making me think I was an idiot for not...
I have a problem with a link from a model to a drawing. If I have the drawing open, I can open the model from the drawing. However, if I have the model open and try to open the drawing from it, then it doesn’t have the link.
The model is 242 0XXX. The model has two configurations- 0100 and...
One of them is the Baumer LFFS Level Switch. The link to the page for the information is below.

Can anyone give a quick explanation or a link to an explanation of what sensor repeatibility would be measuring exactly?
I have two different sensors I'm using in a project, and for both sensors the repeatability is given as +/- 1 mm. Both sensors detect the presence of liquid when there is...
What is the best way to email a SolidWorks assembly, so that you send the whole assembly, but the individual components and details are not accessible?
An engineer in the sister division of my company has requested the 3D models of my assemblies from one of my projects. I checked with my boss...
The example that my boss made is a Gantt chart, showing when the project tasks start and end. On the example, the overall project starts on 1/3/11.
I meant it didn't seem to affect anything else, in that I still can't change the start date for the project on the Gantt chart. Under the Project...
How do you change the start date on a project in the program OpenProj?
My department is supposed to start using OpenProj for our projects. My boss made a template that shows the standard tasks and time durations for our projects.
On the template, he put the start date for the entire project...
CorBlimeyLimey, I'm not sure if doing model properties would work. Sometimes I'm revising a drawing that has already been done by someone else in the company, and it would be more work to make it a model property, rather than just typing manually. And given the information, I'm not sure that...
In Microsoft Excel or Word, it's really easy to do a find and replace, and you can change all the times that your document says "Aluminum" to "Steel" really easily. I'm looking for a way to do that in tables in the Solidworks drawings.
I have reference tables on some of my drawings. These are...
I hadn't thought about the washers stretching. I guess that makes sense, that there would be a better seal that way. I'll probably get some of those then to test.
My boss was also wanting to get some washers with different levels of hardness. I think Durometer Shore hardness 70A would be...
Does anyone know of any suppliers who have an inventory of nitrile washers? Seems like every place I've looked at so for either doesn't have the size I need, or would have to custom make the washers which would be too expensive just for testing.
A few days ago I asked here on how to cut...
I was wondering if scissors would be sufficient, so it's good to have confirmation. I don't need the sizes to be exact for testing so it doesn't matter that the tolerances will be off. I just need to have washers of the correct material of roughly the correct size.
Thanks for your help!
I need to know how to cut 1/8" thick sheets of nitrile rubber into washers to test.
For a project at work, I'm planning to use some square nitrile washers. The possible dimensions are shown on the attached pdf. As you can see, it's not a common design. So, one rubber washer salesguy recommended...
