    Combine Bodies (Subtract)

Thank you, un-highlighting the merge option did the trick! I appreciate your help, Nicole

    Combine Bodies (Subtract)

I can seem to use the combine feature. I have two solid bodies in my part, that are overlapping, and the combine button is still grey in the feature menu. I even tried doing it with just two cubes, as I thought maybe my one body was to complex . . . no luck. Am I missing something? Help! Thanks.

Locating a Fixed Distance Along a Spline

I use the routing add on to create large electrical harnesses. On some of these harnesses I use the covering option to cover segments of the harness with extra layers. This being said, to distinguish the section I want to have the extra layering I split the route at the start and end points and...

Add comma to drawing dimension - 10,000 instead of 10000

There is always the option of over-riding your dimension, and manually putting in the number with the comma yourself (not really the best practice, but will give you your end result).

    Stepp files converted to Solidworks

You can also try opening the axels and saving them as parasolid or igs file (as they are much smaller than steps), and insert into your assembly this way.

    Threading A Clamping Nut Question

I do (electrical mostly), but this paticular piece is for a different (much less critical) application. As an FYI I took the part to a machine shop and was able to determine that there was not enough area to provide sufficient thread contact. Everyones comments were appreciated.

    Threading A Clamping Nut Question

Thanks for everyones input, it was all very helpful.

    Threading A Clamping Nut Question

Thanks Ceramicguy, I will not be using the wrench flats once the thread is machined onto the piece.

    Threading A Clamping Nut Question

I would (best case scenario) like to put a 1.438-18 UNEF external thread on it.

    Threading A Clamping Nut Question

    Thats the idea . . . assuming its possitble . . .

    Threading A Clamping Nut Question

I have a clamping nut that is a part of a coaxial connector and need to know if I can thread the portion shown in the attached drawing (I didn't inlude the whole clamping nut just the area I want to apply the exterior thread too). Basically my question is how do I determine if I have enough...

Routing - Changing The Default Min Bend Radius

I would like to specify a value for the minimum radius my spline can have, without having to go through the effort of defining a custom library. Is there not a way I can just select a spline and define the bend radius I would not like it to go under? Thank You in Advance, Nicole

    Fixed Length Segment in Route

I am not able to set my desired fixed length to a segment of a route. I know that the length is almost 3 times as large as the distance between the two clips I am trying to apply the fixed length too but I am getting the warning message that "with the direction and magnitude specified, the...

Rotating A Portion of an Assembly Relative to Another Portion

Thank you both very much for your responses. Fixing my problem was a simple as making sure the components I wanted to move together were all locked to eachother and there were no fixed components. Again, you input is appreciated. Nicole

Rotating A Portion of an Assembly Relative to Another Portion

I am trying to rotate a large sub-assembly relative to another portion of the assembly. Namely trying to show the retraction of a landing gear system into a plane. The landing gear has a common axis with the exterior and I want to rotate it along this axis. It seams it should be simple to me...

Best way to convert CATIA v4 in SWx?

I take in models of portions of landing gears and use the routing program to create the electrical harnesses. It is also a serious PITA.

Best way to convert CATIA v4 in SWx?

Most of the work I do in SolidWorks is using base models supplied in CATIA. The best method I have found, and believe me it is not perfect, and is in fact a constant struggle, is STEP files. I use a program called ADOBE 3D Viewer, which directly opens CATPART files, and they can then be...

Adding Components to a Flattened Route

drawoh, I am the only person in my company that uses the SolidWorks program, so as long as I am creating drawings that meet their standards as far as appearance and accuracy goes, the method I use to reach this end goal is irrelevant to them. I was just hoping there was simple ways to have a...

Adding Components to a Flattened Route

Thank you for your response drawoh, I would be OK with only having the added elements on the flattened route that would create the drawing, and have managed to accomplished this since my post. What is SolidWorks' cable design tools? I am using SolidWorks Premium 2010, is this an add-on I can...

    Balloon * error

You can always manually select what you would like your balloon to say. There is a drop down menu under Balloon Settings called Balloon Text. Select Text and a field will open up bellow where you can enter what you would like to be in the ballon. This does not fix whatever formatting error has...
