I am trying to put a uniform fillet between the hub and blade of an Impeller. However, the fillet radius is changing near the leading edge.
When I check the iso-parametetric curve along the blade, before making the fillet, it is uniform from top to bottom (shroud to hub). However after making...
Thank you very much 3DDave & JohnRBaker!
I designed some complex aero engine parts. From that experience, I can say that we should understand the design before we starting the model.
For example, I designed a 'Fuel metering unit' for an aircraft engine. It is a part with several interconnecting...
Thank you everyone for inputs!
@3DDave & Drawoh
The part I received is a old (1970s) aircraft engine casting part! They are drawn without CAD! I really wonder how they managed to draft and manufacture without CAD in those old days! Huge respect to those guys for their imagination! But for me...
Greetings Mechanical Engineers!
I request experienced mechanical design engineers to suggest guidelines/best practices for doing 3D CAD modelling of complicated enginnering drawing.
I received a complicated casting drawing for 3d modelling, which consists of 12 A1 sheets with 100s of views and...
Hello everyone!
I have an airfoil blade model. Its thickness varies from top (shroud) to bottom (hub) and from right (Leading edge) to left side (trailing edge).
Is there a way to extract the thickness distribution at a section?
Also, it it possible to find the location/position by taking...
Thank you everyone!
@drawoh yes this is not my drawing. I am a CNC shop manager. Yes do we have asme standards. Ok thank you.
I could understand better from all the answers. Had I uploaded the drawing, it would have been better. But I couldn't do it because of the company policy.
For further...
Thanks for the answers!
Let's consider a practical scenario.
1. A dowel is required with 10 microns positional tolerance with respect to datum A (Flat datum) and datum B (Cylindrical datum).
2. Now do we need to control the flatness of datum A and cylindricity of datum B within 1 micron?
3...
Can the controlled feature be more accurate than the datum?
For example, if the positional tolerance is called with reference to a flat datum with the flatness control (say, 50 microns), then can the positional tolerance be less the the flatness value of the datum (that is less than 50 microns)?
Hello everyone, I am new to NX CAM although I have experience in NX CAD.
I am in the process of shifting from Esprit CAM to NX CAM and so I am trying to figure out whether all the major feature in Esprit CAM is available in NX CAM or not.
One such feature is Impeller/Blisk Multiaxis adaptive...
I have an aerofoil blade with single face. I want to divide the face where the curvature changes, for treating the portion separately in CAM software. By doing curvature analysis, I am approximately picking the nearest isoparametric curve to divide the face.
But is there any better way of doing...
Toost,
1. It is required for Spiral finishing operation in CAM. The tool path and orientation are calculated based on the Midsurface.
2. It is actually skewed. I get a error message of 'Midsurface touching the side faces' in CAM software.
Whenever I use the Midsurface tool for thin complex geometry, the result is always not accurate.
For example, when I use the midsurface tool to create midsurface for an axial aerofoil blade, the resulting surface is not exactly at the middle and sometimes some portion of the midsurface overlaps...
What is the best practice & format to control data loss while exporting the model?
I created a midsurface for an aerofoil blade using 'mid-surface' option. It looked fine (i mean, exactly at the middle) in the NX, but when i import the model in another CAM software, I found the midsurface was...
Does anybody developed Journal code or Grip function to extract point and face normal (x,y,z, & i,j,k) information along a curve?
This information is required by the CMM inspector for the model to inspect.
I am able to extract the information for a single point (by creating information of the...
Are there any best practices to follow regarding CAD model preparation for CAM?
Nowadays, most of the CAM are feature based CAM, which is going to use the CAD model for tool path generation. Hence, the accuracy of CAD model affects output of CAM.
So regarding this, I have the following...
Is is possible to create mirror curves along a curve?
Like an offset, but the curves has to be mirrored along the selected curve instead of simple offset.
I have a complex model. I want to select the faces/edges within a volume which I make over the existing model.
For example, in the existing model, i want to create a hollow cylinder and then i want to select all the faces/edges which falls within the boundary of this hollow cylinder.
Any help is...
Is there a way to create Cross sectional area curve along a given path (defined by a curve)?
The space-finder tool gives a Height vs Volume relation curve.
Just like that, I like to draw a cross-sectional area curve along the given path. Is there any work around to do it automatically instead...
