    Stainless 304 / 316 magnetic ???

Austenitic Stainless Steel-- Magnetic ???? Stainless 304 or 316 is non magnetic. But if you put a magnet on a valve body or fitting of the above materials, the magnet sticks to it (although with less force than carbon steel). Also, if you try to stick the magnet on a straight length of pipe of...

    Reducing Plate Heat Exchanger Fouling

I think increasing the water flow rate can at least decrease the fouling. Lower water temperature at the interface will decrease the "baking" effect. It is not the best solution and I agree that a clean water source is what is required here.

We have a dimple jacketed reboiler

We have a dimple jacketed reboiler with agitator. While trying to process a high boiling liquid we found that the boil up is fairly low (2 to 4 USGPM). This calls for additional heating to be supplied to the liquid to increase the boil up. We cannot install an internal plate coil heat exchanger...

    Piping Specs

Can anyone identify a good source for writing a pipe spec. I am looking into some standards (if any) or software which can help write a pipe spec. designed for a specific facility based on type of service and pressure temp etc. It will identify the type of pipe, bolting, flange, material etc...

ASME STAMP- ABOVE 14.7 PSIG ONLY

CHD01 and vessel guy's replies seem to answer the question. I believe "simplicity" was the key word here to divide jurisdictions of API and ASME.

ASME STAMP- ABOVE 14.7 PSIG ONLY

I am not in the field of pressure vessels. The question is why a vessel rated for less than 14.7 psig, not required to have an ASME stamp. Is there less chance of injury etc ?? There could be a vessel holding a high "volume" at 14.7 psig and a veseel holding very less volume at 14.7...

    preventative maintenance procedures

I believe Drazen and Inbcpe have the best advice. The first thing is to identify if the CMMS program is worth implementing b/c of time/ labor involved. How big is the plant? if it is a small plant a CMMS program is a waste of time, but if it is a major plant with hundreds of equipment on site...

    Valves conforming to ULC C842

The fire code for the province asks for valves conforming to ULC C842 to be installed on lines carrying flammable/ combustible liquids (or vapor). I am having a hard time finding valves conforming to the above code. Does anyone has any knowledge about these valves or any equivalent valves...

    Flange design

Have you tried the "victaulic clamp" option. There may be a temperature/ pressure limitation.

    Pro/Mechanica Examples

Could someone please guide me in the direction of some Pro/Mechanica examples. I am having a number of problems if anyone can help I would be very grateful. 1) How would I best model an adhesive layer? It seems to have problems creating the element with AutoGEM. 2) Can you change the mesh...

    tentative header size

I agree with MJCRONIN,your calculations are good, but sometimes theory and practice are diffeent. SO i suggest that you should consider one size higher pipe size for header than is calculated. This is always safer then to midfy the header. mechy
