It appear that the support were designed to avoid thermal bridges and allow axial movements.
If supports are damages these have to be replaced and I would recommend to address a pipe-support supplier with this question and also let him make necessary loading calculations to determine suitable...
There are a dozen different type of insulation materials. Is it possible to send some pictures in order to advise you best. Also to determine thickness I would need to know something about the environmental situation? Are the pipes in- or outside, max. min. ambient temperatures?

Ask your question to two or three insulation contractors. So many valid things are mentioned already, but equally haven't and can only be answered on the job. Scaffolding I could add for one.

And if flanges or -pairs are insulated, do they need to be equipped with some kind of leak detection? What kind of insulation material is required?

Apart from the coating, the insulation system you design is also of influence of possible CUI failures.
I would like to recommend the CINI manual for industrial insulation, which has a detailed specification for cold/cryogenic insulation: www.CINI.nl
If you are planning to insulate on a live...
Steve is referring to the best, in my opinion, available documents.
For the record, the EFC CUI guideline is currently being updated. Part of this update is a more extensive description of insulation. One of the often underestimated influences of CUI failures.
I also would like to recommend the...
Dear Asghar,
Based on your above mentioned info I would advise to put as you mention a two component phenolic epoxy novolac over IOZ. Apart from this I would also advise to install drainplugs in the insulation, at the bottom under manholes and vacuumrings (in applicable). And to install Vessel...
Dear Asghar,
I thinks below factors should also brought into consideration:
• Expected life cycle
• Service conditions
• Local conditions like the corrosion class (C1-C5)
• Historical experiences from the asset-owner
• Inspection strategy. RBI? TSA can have longer inspection intervals than IOZ...
BigInch,
Can you please explain me your offensive attitude. This discussion is still open and the person on behalf you seem to react clearly mentions "Any input will be appreciated." I merely share my experience which judging by your reply doesn’t qualify in eyes.
I assume you’re not familiar...
Dear Kunal01,
Maybe a more practical approach since in my experience flanges always leak or sweat in the long run. There are numerous of flange-belts that can act either as a leak detection or as a drainage in insulated piping.

Hydro testing is often part of more NDE inspection and not to mentions visual examination. In my experience it’s more or less subject to time pressure, especially in shut-downs, whether an asset-owner allows it.
@ pennpiper. A lot of SS system are coating to protect against SCC

Dear Gentleman
We seem to forget the “I” in CUI and underestimate the influence of proper insulation design.
The NACE emphasizes on coatings and clearly favours TCA for heavy duty environments. My issue with the NACE SP0198 is that it doesn’t focus enough on the influence of insulation. We...
dear Babouic, Asghar
The NACE you refer to, which is a nowadays a “SP” by the way, emphasizes on coating and clearly favours TCA for heavy duty environments. My issue with the NACE SP0198 is that it doesn’t focus enough on the influence of insulation. It’s true; wet saturated insulation creates...
Do you have any experience with this? As Temati we sell a PMU drainplug http://www.temati.com/files/Downloads/TDS/UK/Algemeen/TDS-PMU.pdf , which is a little bit based on the same principal, but without the electrical parts. And my experience so far is that conservatisms are our biggest enemy...

CUI problems are as old as the way to Rome.
RBI seems to be the latest fashion but is only a method it you have a documented maintenance program for insulation. For instance if some steps on, and damages insulation you immediately fix this. Also a lot of companies (ExxonMobil) claim to...
It’s not new technology but never the less fairly unknown insulation system: NON-CONTACT INSULATION.
What's been told a good practical solution in preventing CUI (Corrosion Under Insulation).
By creating a cavity between pipe and thermal insulation (in general mineral wool) it prevents water...
I've attached a detail with regards to the insulation. It’s designed for cold insulation but in order to avoid thermal bridges, which you should try to accomplish, the design remains the same. Also by using a high density pipe section you simplify adjacent insulation to be installed. Also you...
Insulation against freezing can’t be accomplished by only installing insulation. Unless you cover this proceswise by ensuring a constant flow, because if it stand still it will eventually freeze. More common practice is to install some king of tracing, in your case probably heattracing...
Both PIR and Foamglass can be used and will not crack. The wax, it’s definitely not Terostat which is a MS polymer or butyl. If you like I could find out , but I’ve heard of contractors having good result not using any kind of wax. Depending on the moisture degree the moisture becomes light...
Heat transfer calculation can be made by any supplier/manufacturer. In general they use their own software. I don’t know any manufacturer for “polyethylene reinforced with fiber glass”. Is it by the way a industrial environment. You might consider a material with good fire properties. Foamglass...
