Where Catia and it's users fail...hybrid modelling revisited.

I was a pretty active forum participant here years ago when there were more hours in a day. I remember sharing a lot of board space ;)

Where Catia and it's users fail...hybrid modelling revisited.

lol...how you been John? It's been a while. I think your two cents would be worth about 100x that but I'd probably refrain in your shoes too ;)

Where Catia and it's users fail...hybrid modelling revisited.

Hey all. It's been a while since I was actively participating around here but had an interesting experience recently that I thought I'd share. For a little background, I've owned a product development company for nearly 15 years. It's size has scaled over the years along with the economy but...

    CATIA Downward Capability

Spending $30k will not however fix how the salesmen sell the term 'downward compatible'. It would be a great way to piss off the wife though.

Internal error messages when trying to open a Catia file.....

Hey all...long time no post ;) Ran into a problem a couple times over the last few weeks that wasn't a big deal until it cost me a day's worth of work so I figured I'd post about it because although the topic had been somewhat addressed a couple times on a few different sites, none of the given...

Converting STL\Rapid Prototype files to Parasolids?

When you import an STL file you can go under Edit -> Facet Body to clean it up and smooth it out but it's still not going to give you edges, arcs, lines, etc. that you can use for aligning components. I don't know of anything that will convert a facet-type file into what you're looking for.

    Subtract error?

Must be a new NX4 error because I'm still on 3 and I'm sure I've seen every error they have!...lol

    Graphics Cards

That's only a 128mb card....it's going to be a tird with anything big loaded up.

Coverting a JT file into something usable?

lol...thanks Joe...I didn't even know that command was there! Take care....

    Undercutting

hmmm..I haven't done any programs with a barrel cutter but assumed if you defined your tool as a barrel cutter it would recognize where the shaft dia. was and be a breeze. Did you define the cutter that way? Interesting timing though...I've got some cylinder head programs to write in the next...

    ugraf.exe consumes 99% of CPU

Based on your description I'd bet it's graphics related....what graphics card are you using?

    Items UG needs to fix!!

Hey Tim...nkwheelguy....you got it bud! And all the long-time UG guys are with you. A lot of users don't use some of the functionality we're complaining about so it's no sweat of their back. UG hasn't addressed any of the "seriously annoying" problems that a "high-end" user faces since I've...

    IGES out Assembly part

From your top level....goto File>>Export...export a part...in the export part dialog you need to specify your exported part name, check "All Objects" in the selection scope and "Remove Parameters" from the feature parameters section, then select "Class Selection" and select your entire assembly...

Coverting a JT file into something usable?

I've been supplied with JT data and need to somehow make it usable. As a "faceted body" it's esentially worthless to me and corporate "politics" prevent me from getting any other data....nice huh?...good 'ol American efficiency for you! We'd rather screw our neighbors over than lend them a...

    ugraf.exe consumes 99% of CPU

yeah...UG actually recommends you disable hyper-threading. But...are you guys actually executing a command when this happens or is it just happening regardless of what you're doing? If so....do you remember what commands? Also....what hardware are you running on? Take care...

    IGES out Assembly part

Not sure on your exact requirements but what I usually do is export the entire assy to a single part file (remove parameters also) and then open that part file and export the IGES from there....I'll usually put everything on seperate layers while I'm in there too. Take care..

    Items UG needs to fix!!

Batch CGM converter!! Since the DXF translator is evidently never going to work right...how about giving me a batch CGM converter so after I export my drawings to CGM I don't have to import each and every one in order to export a DXF or DWG.

    Items UG needs to fix!!

Yeah...it's like they just "slapped" it together real quick for a release. Even the order in which you select the view or components is reversed depending on whether you're hiding or showing....doesn't make sense. And let me select multiple views rather than just one at a time. "View from...

    Items UG needs to fix!!

Hide/show component in view. While being a great feature and a heck of a lot better than view dependent edits or layer settings....how about making it easier for me to show a single component and then not have to repeatedly update it as I add new components to my assembly (3d molds). Let me...

    CAM in UG

Listen to Duece. I've been using the CAM package for about 10 years and still learn something new every day or forget something I knew the day before. It is NOT an "entry" level CAM package or an "easy to use" package for that matter. It requires a fairly extensive knowlege of the design...
