Yes we did do an API 653 appendix B inspection during shut down (when tank was moved into new location); the inspection results are those to which I referred above-indicating that the floor plate should be replaced as per appendix B4.2 .
Hi,
We have a situation where a 20 yr old tank was moved in order to replace liner. We had an API 653 on tank in old location in 2003 and it showed several locations (3 stations) with higher than acceptable edge settlement. This summer the tank was moved. We did hydrotest, and an API inspection...
Sorry if post was not clear.
I understand what a frangible roof is and what the API conditions are for it-but at our organization there were those who believed that if we had a handrail all around a tank roof edge it would stop the shell-roof weld from being frangible. I don't think that is true...
Well neither would I -but am no welding expert.
I suspect that the decision not to put railing all round tanks edge was actually made
a) to save money on railing, and
b) due to a (misguided) notion that "if we don't put railing there then people won't go to that part of tank roof and therefore...
Hi,
Looking for some input or suggestions as to how to handle fall restraint/railing at vertical tanks.
As far as I understand from API 650, one of the conditions that must be met before having a frangile roof is that diameter of roof must be 15.25 m or more in diameter.
Most of our...
Thanks-these were originally 3/16 inch (most dome and some were cone) roofs with no particular extra loads except maybe seismic(and I am not sure if they were designed for that)- they are 27 years old and roofs had corroded from 0.188 in thick to 0.170 inches in that time so Cr was 0.00067...
What tank roof thickness criteria is used during API 653? From the section in 653 on Suitablity for Service, it sounds as if roof plates corroded to an av thickness less than 0.09 inches in any 100 inch sq area means the plats should be reapiared or replaced. Is this true then whatever the...
