We have a similar problem. Our galvanizer's suggestions didn't work so well so we started experimenting. We found that a plain bolt with the threads coated liberaly with "Magnalube" worked best. The screw is removed and scrapped after the galv. and any residuals around the hole is hit with a...
Don't know if it's free iron or an oxide. I don't have any method to verify either.
The material has been solution annealed. So far the supplier has said nothing.
The passivation can be ruled out as the source. We did salt water tests before and after passivation with the same results. Also...
We have a simple part of 17-4 stainless steel HR bar stock. It's 3" x 3" x 1/2" thick. There is a 3/4-10 tapped hole centered in it. Generally it's made from 3" x 1/2" barstock, sawn and machined. The part is then welded to a structure. The structure is exposed to cleaning agents in the food...
It's kind of funny that more responses weren't from managers that liked their jobs.
Yes, you actually can learn to like managment.
And yes, there are companies that value their engineers for thier engineering skills. But you've got to remember that as an engineer, (if you're a good one),you...
I have a fairly complex and fairly large part(about 4'x4'and 4" thick made of formed and welded mild steel parts) to galvanize with many holes that are drilled and tapped and some that are thru. My question is, how do I plug the tapped holes and high precision holes so when the part is...
I have a fastener (1-1/4-7 x 5-1/2 HHCS) that is made of 17-4 Stainless. It is in condition A as pre-machined and Condition H 900 post machined. This leaves a very colorful finish which my customers percieve as rust and my marketing people hate.
The screw needs to be SS to resist corrosion...
I'd almost bet your inclusion is coming from your tack. I think you have contamination forming around the tack and you are including it in the final weld. Is there any way to tack with a tig gun and no filler?
I have a customer who is requesting a stainless steel connection in a sensor cable (4 cables). I need both the male and female, 5 pins, 24 guage wires, need to be able to pott each connector.
Amp doesn't make anything. Deutch has a solution for $150 each. Does anybody know of an off the shelf...
I agree with scottmaha. Get your self a Go/NoGo and with a hole this size you could use a pin gage to look at the shape of the hole. You really need to use a guide bushing. Check the play in the spindle of your drill press. Also use a center drill.
Make sure your tap is sharp.I assume...
Can anybody point to a decent practical comparison of 304 to 316/316l? I can find the metallurgical comparison charts I need. I work in an industry where these materials are used quite often in the products we make. Our standard product is made from 304. Some customers request 316/316l...
