P.S.
I deleted the whole drawing, and it did not work. I use quick select to select the whole drawing and it still did not work. I deleted the all the layouts and it still did not work. I closed the drawing and re-opened it and now it works. I can trim an xline using fillet. It is to do...
Sorry chaps.
I have drawn two xlines through the origin but it still does not work. I am sure AutoCAD is more than capable of working with negative signs. Anyway. I have tried it in a drawing that covers 1 square kilometre in cyber and the problem does not exist. I am sure it is to do with...
P.S.
I just tried it again and when I select the first line to chamfer or fillet, the line is recognised and asks for the second line to corner. When I select the second line, it is not recognised and I get stuck in the function until I escape. It doesn't see the line.
Thanks guys.
First: The drawing is a root drawing. Other drawings will access it when its complete. Its not an ex-ref. I do, however, draw solely using blocks and poly-lines. I edit all my blocks with the Reference Editor - not Block Editor. And I often copy blocks from other drawings. Maybe...
Here's the drawing that will allow me to fillet. Much smaller drawing.http://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=8125af32-5ffd-4498-a3f9-ad6e04b0c6ca&file=Steel_profiles.dwg

Thanks for the interest
Its not a 3D problem and it occurs only in some drawings. I attach a drawing that I am currently working on which will not allow me to fillet and I will attach a drawing on the next post which will allow me to fillet. I have both open at the same time and I am...
When I started a drawing, I could trim my construction lines using fillet or chamfer. As my drawing progressed, the ability to trim with fillet or chamfer the construction lines has ceased. I can trim with trim but nothing else. This has happened before on other computers using other versions...
Am I the only person using 3D that runs out of memory. I have a dual core, 4-gig of memory and a dedicated nVidia graphics card. I tried to build a house using solid geometry and my computer started to stall. If I have layer properties open, then the cursor would snap rather than flow, or if I...
Are these the results that are required. The pipe diameter plays no role other than for deflection. The results are for a unit load of 1kN per metre length of pipe with rigid supports allowing rotation...
Is there a way of setting the background mask to on or off from within the MText editor? At present, I type the text and then set the background mask from within the properties box.
Cheers

For 3D work, AutoCAD has no substitute. All of the tools of Sketchup, Ecotect, maya are in AutoCAD. AutoCAD is micro-millimetre perfect, no other program is. Other programs are for animation, media - not engineers. So why use anything else? civeng80 answered that question - its childish...

Thanks for the link. I have written to Chemtura for some technical advice. I attach a technical sheet for an aqueous PUD. Can this material be added to the concrete mix or would that be very expensive?
Dear All. Thanks for the advice. I am going to try the Calculix and Elmer programs - both look very good.
As for modelling the socket, although timber is anisotropic, I wish to analysis the socket with the load applied perpendicular to the grain, so could I not assume that the material is...
I want to model a steel-post being levered in a timber socket. I would like to see the stress concentrations around the socket as the lever is pulled.
Are there any finite element programs about that are free. I could buy an add-on for my program but it will cost me £280 and I want to do this...
