    Overcoming Time Obstacles for ECN's

We have recently adopted MS SharePoint for some of our project managment, not ECNs, but this software has the ability to act as a repository and routing for comunications since it links with outlook. I would check with your IT to see if you have it available to you. It was very easy to learn and...

Selecting variables in assembly optimization study

You might try creating a parameter to drive the diameter then use the new parameter for the optimization study.

    Insert Flat Pattern in Drawing

Billy, you can add/change the drawing model by going to the File->Properties->Drawing Models->Add Model(select your flat model)->Set Model(select the model you just added) and inset a drawing view as you normally do.

    ASTM specification for inconel bolt

There is no official American standard for this equation but this is the widely accepted industry standard. My colleagues and myself typically reference Shigley.

Problem too complex for Variable Section Sweep?

Why not create the two end surfaces then boundry blend?

Transitioning to management, what's your experience?

Not sure if you have read the thread below but you might give it a once over to get an idea of what you might be getting into. This is a nasty generalization and I know nothing of your personal or technical skills but forgive me for attempting to dissuade you from going to the dark side as...

There is a Repeat function in assembly mode as well. Place the first one then highlight, Edit->Repeat

    Justifying 3D CAD

http://www.solidworks.com/sw/3d-software-solid-modeling.htm ...This is from the solidworks website and might give you a few points to think about. Depending on your type of work the use of 3D software can be used as a virtual prototyping tool which can cut costs in the shop. This should be...

    MET uncertain about future

Thanks for clearing that up, Fogs. Pursuing the second degree sounds like a very worthwhile option. I have been tossing around the idea to go back for a BSME or MSME myself. It is my belief that with both degrees you would know both the application and theory aspects of engineering and therfore...

    MET uncertain about future

Fogs, I am a recent grad of an MET program and understand the decision you are facing. Many people struggle with the "big picture" in college. It probably wasn't until my senoir year that I realized what was really happening. There are many ways you can go with an MET. You mention going to a...

    Parameter in Geometric Tolerance

I attempted to embed a parameter using the additional text tab in the gtol setup and it appears that this field is only setup to allow text input, as it could not read the parameter value just the text used to embed. It looks like embeding it in a free note might be the best way.

    Figure-8 Helix

Something very similar was answered just days ago. Next time do a search before you post, as the policies of this forum state. http://www.eng-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=278385&page=1

MInimium Pitch value for Helical Sweep

Star for dgallup. Agreed that it is most likely due to accuracy.

How do you back up Intralink 9.0 data to offline directory?

Just to be sure, you should export from the enbedded workspace in ProE. Select all of the desired files and then use Tools/Export from Workspace as dakeb instructed. Then you will be required to set the target directory to be the folder you want these files dumped to. If this doesn't work it...

draft angle on a logo on an angled surface?

Engrnick, congrats on figuring it out. Another way to perform this would be to create a sketch and then offset with draft. It is the same amount of steps but this way you dont have to worry about not selecting all of the surfaces.

Optimization of threads in a bolt-nut assembly

I prefer, and have heard many others say the same, sensitivity studies because they allow you to select the results. This is very useful since it is possible to have many local maximums near the true maximum.

    Insurance required for design work?

Does work-for-hire apply to liability the same way it applys to copyright? I have heard this argument being made and wondered if it had any merit with respect to engineering design.

Optimization of threads in a bolt-nut assembly

Instead of an optimization, try running a sesitivity study and expand your limits to above and below the current "optimized" value. This will clearly tell you if this value is indeed the correctly optimised value.

Opening a file when connected to Intralink

We need some more details about your system before anyone can provide you with any help. What version of ProE and Intralink are you using? What hardware do you have?
