    I double checked that and it says "entire assembly". Just for fun I tried it with "within work part and components" and "within work part only", same result. Thanks for the suggestions so far, I'd hate to have to recreate this whole assembly.

I noticed that when I'm in the assembly as the work part, right click on a part and select move, it gives me the "incorrect object for this operation" message, then makes the previous assembly I was working in the work part, almost like it...
