Drawing Type - Loose Hardware Assembling Definition (i.e. Ground Support Equipment)

@3DDave, Thank you so much for the input. That definitely sounds reasonable and doable, sadly it'll be me trying to convince someone of another document we should create. In the round about way I can just add the words installation instructions to a drawing format and push on. As MintJulep...

Drawing Type - Loose Hardware Assembling Definition (i.e. Ground Support Equipment)

I have a general question of drawing types (ASME Y14.24-2012) to be used for hardware assembly involving ground support equipment. Basically the hardware used is designed to support and attach to an assembly or various other assemblies, but I need to define how that hardware is installed. By...

Product of Inertia Direction/Sign Incorrect in Creo 2 and 3

Not considering the Creo 4 result shown, which was troubling, it appears Creo 2 and 3 are reporting correctly. After chatting with PTC, Siemens, and Dassault it appears I came across a convention that not all CAD tool companies do consistently. I'm not sure why they don't just follow the math...

Product of Inertia Direction/Sign Incorrect in Creo 2 and 3

PTC might have some even more serious issues with Creo mass properties unless I'm missing something. Given that it's now reporting an incorrect CG with the outputted result showing a negative Z. CENTER OF GRAVITY with respect to _PRT0002 coordinate frame: X Y Z 5.0000000e+01 5.0000000e+01...

Product of Inertia Direction/Sign Incorrect in Creo 2 and 3

I might be confused. Is the first quadrant in the negative Z direction given the CG has a negative Z value? My first thought would be the first quadrant would be considered all positive. Thanks!

Product of Inertia Direction/Sign Incorrect in Creo 2 and 3

Thank you for the reply. Looking at the Creo 4 results you gave is that the same example as I posted, a cube in the positive XYZ quadrant? I ask because I see the Iyz as negative, so I'm assuming PTC fixed this issue and the geometry you have shown is different than the example I gave especially...

Product of Inertia Direction/Sign Incorrect in Creo 2 and 3

Has anyone noticed a issue in either Creo 2 and 3 (or later versions) that has the product of inertia showing the wrong direction (positive or negative)? I've found recently that Creo 2 and 3 are reporting the incorrect sign or value (depending on the placement of mass) for the product of...

Parasolid NX Assembly Structure Export (Poll)

Yup that would be mine [glasses] I've done all of the above, but Siemens states even though there are several ER's for this they have absolutely no plans to ever provide this. I have ER's, posted on EngTips, posted on the Siemens forum community, and NX forum on LinkedIn. I'm trying to see if...

Parasolid NX Assembly Structure Export (Poll)

Yeah I wish I could convince the NX 8.5 folks, but they are set in their ways, as shown by them still using NX 8.5. LOL That's interesting I was just playing around with convergent bodies on JT's that, I guess, didn't have precise data turned on. I was converting them into convergent bodies...

Parasolid NX Assembly Structure Export (Poll)

Unfortunately, I can't use JT. The suppliers/customers I'm dealing with request Parasolid. Two use Creo 2 & 3 and choose not to purchase the JT license from PTC. And the last uses NX 8.5 and only wants Parasolid.

Parasolid NX Assembly Structure Export (Poll)

That would definitely be a nice addition as well. I tried Solidworks and it also exports curves via Parasolid and NX reads those in as well. Sad how limited NX is with exporting a Parasolid when it is supposedly Parasolid based and the company who produces NX is the Parasolid license holder.

Parasolid NX Assembly Structure Export (Poll)

NX can import a Parasolid with an assembly structure that was exported by some other software that generated it. What NX cannot do is EXPORT a Native NX or any model as a Parasolid with an Assembly structure included. It can only Export a Parasolid as a flat file containing multiple bodies. So...

Parasolid NX Assembly Structure Export (Poll)

I’m hoping I might get a poll from folks on this forum on the idea of Parasolid exports containing assembly structure. Siemens really only measures NX needs/wants based on IR generation, so the wants of NX users is probably not effectively captured if only IR’s are looked at. Currently NX is...

Removing the parent part reference for a broken link

Well the only way I know of keeping the curve broken and no indication of where it was linked to is the copy the exact same curve into the work part the link is apart of. Redefine the linked curve to use the copied curve. Then edit the link curve again and turn off the associativity. Then just...

Removing the parent part reference for a broken link

Go to the part navigator where the unparameterized body is and right click the body. You will see "convert to linked body" select that, then right click on the broken link to redefine it (edit with rollback or edit parameters) to a new reference body.

    Reused Set of assembled components

I thought I used to remember a function that allowed you to build a set of components as something you could reuse. I see they have a reuse fastener function but I remember it being simpler where you could place several components together and define that as a template to be used to place...

NX Simplify Assembly Function Large Assembly Management

Question for folks that have very large assembly experience and folks that are in the know with how Siemens might see the future of particular NX functions... Is the Simplify Assembly function still a mainstream utility for managing large assemblies in NX10? Given other CAD systems (Creo...

Lower Level Component Assembly Motion at next assembly

Nevermind. My brain returned to it's normal self and reminded me of Position Override for the lower level components. I can now move the model as I thought I could.

Lower Level Component Assembly Motion at next assembly

So I must be mixing CAD systems but from some reason I thought this worked before... If I create a lower level component that has freed degrees of freedom, so for example a spherical bearing where the ball can rotate about its center, and assemble that bearing assembly into another assembly...

NX Code Syntax / Quantity Attribute Use in Assembly Drawing Note

Does anyone know of an all-encompassing cheat sheet for the basic NX syntax you can type to achieve when typing into notes, expressions, tables, etc. for linking the various data contained within a model/part/assembly/drawing? Along with that, does anyone know how one might link the quantity of...
