If you set up the default file folder, that seems to be the cause of many a problem. I had that same problem, but when I removed the default folder, the problems went away.
When checking for collisions with the sound option on, all I hear is an anemic "ding". I would like to replace it with a more robust car crash or other sound file. Do any of you know how to change this sound?
Incidentally, the very good help system failed me here.
JosephV: I think you have a very good solution. I had forgotten that mate groups can now be configuration sensitive. It is not as elegant as simply moving the part along the surfaces, but it will work very well.

I have a need to check the clearances as a part rolls along a surface. It starts horizontal, runs along a 45 degree ramp, and finally there is a vertical section.

"White rust" is corrosion/oxidation of the zinc metal plating. You are plating iron, and of course that has red rust. So, unless you see red, you have yet to get rid of all the zinc.
