    Yes, the gap is constant, all of the surfaces are exactly concentric. I tried mating the surfaces and mating the axes and I tried to insert them but could not get rid of the gap.

    In reality the situation would be like putting a cone shaped part for example a drill with a morse taper on the end for a drill press. In reality the tapered surfaces of the assembly are in full contact. But when I try to use mate or insert in Inventor, the surfaces don't contact each other...
