I would look at it through my rose colored glasses [bigglasses] as he is putting you on the spot in front of your superiors and giving you the chance to show your stuff. In reality, that may not be his motivation for doing it, but your attitude determines your altitude.

What exactly are you trying to make (tidal/wave pump)? Or are you looking for a perpetual pump that uses water pressure to pump the water, or just trying to win a debate with "one person?"
Assuming you have a rigid container sliding over a fixed piston then you will be able to create head...
ajensen,
If you can get away with using aluminum, then I would go with an anodized part, as IRstuff suggested. Anodic coatings are electrically resistive, and should work well for you, that is if you can use aluminum rather than stainless steel.

Not to detract from the mine issues being discussed, but here is another seemingly perpetual motion idea.

I got a laugh out of the comment that because it has no fuel it will be less of a terrorist target.

Impact On Composite Structures, by Serge Abrate talks about it some, and may have what you are looking for.
I would still have to agree with the previous responses that it may be easier to test it emperically, rather than try to gather all the needed material properties.

It's about time somebody did something about the O2 levels, I was starting to worry about oxygen toxicity. [wink]

I have a hard time imagining someone being dismissed from a project for suggesting alternative methods (not saying it doesn't happen). However, I can see it happening if an idea is presented, rejected, and then the original presenter continues to argue the point rather than accepting that the...
Just turn in your request for leave, and when it is denied ask for an extension on the time to "use it or loose it." You are doing your part and trying to take what has been promised to you, and what you have earned, but are not being allowed becuase it inconviences someone else. If you do...
I am in the same boat as you, but when I emailed my state board (Alaska), I was told that I had to have 3 ME PE references. They were unwilling to work with someone who doesn't fit the standard model. Since I don't have to have it, it is just a personal goal, I will wait until later in my...
One more thing to consider when you go to renegotiate with them is that you are now a known quantity. They have had 3 months to watch you work, get a feel for what you are capable of, and gain some confidence in your ability to be a profitable employee.

When I was in school they had a similar course (graduated in 2007). It was really just an intro to the CAD package that you would be using on all of your projects for the next 4 years. There was nothing about producing a 2D drawing, let alone how to produce a quality drawing.

You might want to look into something like a turn-button fastener. I have seen them used in clothing before (old school neoprene wet suit).

Up here in Alaska, we get quite a few moose on the roads every winter. They actually have signs with a running total for the year, as a reminder to slow down and watch out. It takes a pretty big vehicle to do anything but send the moose into the wind shield, so the crumple zone doesn't help...
What did the place that made them say when you told them that the parts were unusable because of the poor surface finish?

To me that questions smells of HR. As such, it would get the vague type of answer that a similar question would get in the highering process.
Pick a hobby that you enjoy, show a little passion about it, and spin it to show a positive influence on your work. Maybe you are really into fishing...
I thought the idea was to glaze them over as fast as possible. That way they think twice before bothering you again. [dazed]

I agree with the previous posters as well. I took the general in the afternoon (because it was my junior year and I had not taken several of the subjects that were on the mechanical afternoon section).
The best advice I could give, besides what has already been given, is to be very familiar...
