Hi, hope all is well.
I am interested to know why the grade number sometime refers to yield strength; but sometime tensile strength.
Such as ASTM A516 Gr70, its TS is 70ksi and YS is only min 38ksi. On the other hand, ASTM A572 Gr65 means the min YS is 65ksi. I have to say, from where I have...
From a offshore installation and maintenance stand points, what is recommended distance between umbilical and flowline/pipeline in subsea production system? Thank you.
Sompe production profile I have seen, say:
oil flow rate: 100,000 bopd
water flow rate: 50,000 bopd
Total fluid flow rate: 140,000 bopd
Why the total fluid flow rate is less than the sum of oil and water? Water injection is excluded here. Thanks.
TGS4 - I took me a while to check the references and understand. Thank you so much and obviously you are the man for ASME. A huge star for you.
Several followingup questions:
1) about true stress and strain curve, I read annex 3.d as that after necking, perfect-plastic shall be assumed, right...
Thank you - TGS4.
1) can you please elaborate more on this "Did it collapse (and by collapse, I mean did the finite element analysis solution converge to a statically-permissible solution) prior to the required factored load"? I guess I am still confused with definition of "collapse". Maybe you...
All,
I understand and am quite familiar with stress linearization and categorization with linear-elastic analysis. Only did couple nonlinear/EP analysises before. I like stress linearization as it allows me to interpret linear FEA results in a reasonable way.
I am wondering what is the...
I am looking to talk to some small or medium sized LWD/MWD companies, rather than big ones like Schlumberger or Weatherford. Any recommendation or contact will be appreciated. Prefer TX or LA subsidiaries if possible.
Ok, littleinch, that is another way, thank you again. But the hydro test at pipe mill is usually low pressure, not the maop, I think. My specific case is 15ksi for fat, which is very high to me for a pressed seal method.
I am in process of writing subsea valve Spec with welding ends for manifold fabrication. So there probably are two contractors involved: valve manufacturer and manifold fabricator. Then how should I specify the FAT test in the valve Spec (no blind flange can be used for testing given the welding...
I would go with #1, as you mentioned potentially to be company man later. Also, you can switch to directional drilling, that is big $$$ usually.
Field engineer for big 3, not too much potential over there.
If you use 4130, then don't go beyond P110; otherwise, will be brittle.
Why the length of perf gun matters, the dead weight? I think you want higher strength for performance purpose.
To get 142ksi yield strength, you have to use other chemistry than 4130, may be 4340, 4330V, 8630, etc. But...
I am trying to reproduce or verify the capacity chart in 6AF2, especially by leakage criteria. I verified couple sizes and several load cases for each size. The result I got was lower than 6AF2. Wondering if anyone did the same thing before?

Is it common to require NDE, surface and vometric, for structural steel, say astm a36, a992, a572, etc?
I personally think it is a good idea to have them, but don't know if it is too much. Thanks a lot.
We need to refurbish some API flanges per API 17D. This standard states all flange ring grooves shall be inconel 625 inlayed for subsea application. But I didn't find anywhere specifying thickness of inconel inlay. Does it specify thickness at all? NORSOK M506 mentioned CRA overlay shall be 3mm...
Hi Everyone,
I need to find some 2'' subsea gate valves, preferally manufacturers in US. Specifically:
- 2-1/16'' API 6A flange connections
- Subsea application, hydraulically actuated or ROV interface
- 10ksi internal, 5ksi external pressures
- Meant to be H2S sour service
Any pointers shall...
The o1 meterial you got is probably untempered, and unhardened either - probably annealed condition. Basically you have two choices: machine first and then heat treat, or heet treat it firs and then machine it. With 1st route, you save on mating but have to deal with dimensional change from heat...
