We have upgraded to SW2008 sp3.0 a while back and I've found when an assembly opens and is missing a part, usually because I've changed the name, I am prompted if I want to find the missing file. I had to enable the message under Tools, Options, Advanced...(new in 2008)

I work locally and save often. Up until now, a full rebuild solves this issue. The only connection to the network, in this case, are some toolbox items. Does "transient" mean the problem comes and goes randomly? Thanks

I've been getting a "failed to save" error when trying to save assemblies. I seem to remember seeing this before and got a macro to force rebuild all subs prior to save. It seemed to work for a while until now.
Has anyone seen this error?

I can alter references thru here I think, also thru SW Explorer, but have not needed to. I kind of got comfortable doing it the other way.

Until yesterday, I've been able to save drawings of similar parts by changing the part number, opening the drawing, and re-referencing to the new part model. After I've renamed the part, it now seems the drawing(s) open without the "Cannot find..." message and the all views are empty...

As I understand templates are pre set conditions for parts, drawings, asn assemblies. Things like units, fonts, etc. can be saved out as needed. Formats are drawing specific however. They contain border features, title block, custom properties...

Any thoughts as to why in 2008 tools were added to the top middle section of the graphics area? They appear to be unmoveable. As one who prefers a maximum of unadulterated space I dont see why these were placed here. Zoom,display, etc tools are easily accessible or programable with hot keys??
Back on the "S" shortcut.
A great feature(opinion). I've moved all my commonly used tools to this menu and it does lessen mouse movement. I can only get it on part models however. Assembly models only call the standard shortcut with the "S" key(without my added tools).

While inserting parts into assemblies I find I cannot drag. First inserted part is fixed, but subsequent parts are not shown as fixed in the feature manager. They cannot be moved. I can mate them however?

BOM for assembly inserted into drawing. Quantity column header lists "config. name"/QTY.
Dont want "config name", just QTY. Changing text header in column will not remain changed.
Any thoughts?

See Boomers post. Changing the pitch/length on a single detail is easy. Add a configuration, click the helix feature in the design tree, double click the dimension needing to be changed and make it configuration specific.
