    Electronic Ballast Failure

It's a steel clad structure and there are no circuits that exit the building. The lighting conduit is run across the roof joists of course. But the area is at the farthest point from the main service. Around 500 feet or so and the 480 VAC feeders are run across the roof for about half that...

    Electronic Ballast Failure

No VFDs in the immediate vicinity. Several VFDs around 100 meters away. We added a three phase transient voltage surge suppressor to the lighting panel as well and it seemed to reduce the failure rate, but didn't halt the failures.

    Electronic Ballast Failure

thread248-278233 We are still experiencing ballast failures even after installing 2 pole motion sensors on our 4 lamp T8 fixtures. I'm thinking that because each ballast has two hots and no grounded supply conductors and the 2 pole motion sensor opens up both L1 and L2, the energy in the lamps...

Using 60 Hz. equipment on 50 Hz.

I'm still waiting to hear back from the manuafacturer. The word is they just de-rate everything and run at reduced power. Our process will not allow that. I'm looking at M/G sets now. (motor/generators) Thanks for the input.

Using 60 Hz. equipment on 50 Hz.

We use a 20 Kw RF oven that uses a TH-6 tube to heat phenolic resin for a molding operation on our 60 Hz. supply system. We need to relocate a manufactuing operation to India where the electrical supply is 50 Hz. Would a huge variable frequency drive be suitable to adapt the supply? I'm...

    Electronic Lighting Balasts

The motion switches are only single pole. Thanks for all the responses. Much appreciated. I'll have a chat with the manufacturer. Cheers.

    Electronic Lighting Balasts

I measure 120 volts to each phase. The supply xfrmer is a wye grounded centerap secondary and of course the fixtures have a separate ground or bonding conductor. The only unusual thing is they have motion control switches to turn them on and off. But it's the ballasts failing, not the motion...

    Electronic Lighting Balasts

Our plant is undergoing a lighting upgrade to T8 fixtures from MH fixtures. All is well in the front of the plant where the lighting uses one 480 VAC phase to neutral at 277 VAC. The ballasts are rated to work form 120 to 300 VAC. No taps, they are intellivolt electronic ballasts. The ballasts...

    F & FW RSLogix

Doh! I don't know why it didn't occurred to me to click on that help button. Thanks.

    F & FW RSLogix

When I look at the input and output data files, I see some words start with "F" some with "FW" and some have nothing. I'm guessing it has something to do with the Panelview reading and writing to those I/O. Is that correct?

    Filter Caps

Scotty, Thanks very much. That was exactly what I was looking for.

    Filter Caps

Good stuff. I wish my German was better. I was able to look at the waveform on a similar plater with a scope. I was pleasantly surprised to find the ripple voltage less than 5%. This is due to a huge external choke. This works very well. The other plater is not so equipped and has twin 12000...

    Filter Caps

The unit in question is a 12 volt 25,000 amp Dynapower rectifier. The rectifier is at our other plant, so I don't have all the nameplate data yet. It is thyristor controlled. The load varies depending on the part we are plating, but generally the rectifier is loaded up to around 13,000 amps at...

    Filter Caps

How can I calculate the current draw of a filter capacitor bank. We have a customer who wants us to electroplate at less than 5% ripple. We are at about 30% ripple now. We plate at 6.5 DC volts and 11,000 amps with 2.5 AC volts ripple. So how much capacitance would be needed to smooth it out to...
