I want to 3D print another plastic fuel cap, roughly 3" in diameter, reverse engineering an existing cap.
The existing cap has internal threads that screw onto the neck of a plastic fuel tank.
How do I get the thread callout for these interior threads?
Since it is not a standard bolt or screw...
Thanks, John.
That was the info I was looking for.
By the way, I'm back in an NX chair after 7 years absence, due to other jobs.
Glad to see you are still helping this community, John, just like when I left in '07.

Thank you.
I am aware of the OS setup of multiple monitors. I should have made my question more clear.
I would like to have an NX graphics window in each of 2 or 3 monitors.
That way, I can have a part open in one monitor, measure it, and use the info on another design that is open in...
I've search and Googled, but I didn't see how I set up dual screens in the first place.
Can you give me "click by click" instructions?
I have 3 monitors, but let's start with the instructions on how to set up two monitors as a start.

I installed a "maintenance release" & "maintenance pack 10". Now, it doesn't even start up. I get an error box saying, "file nx_electrodedesign.dpx could not be found".
It used to start up, but now it doesn't.
I've verified on a co-worker's desk that the files are not corrupt.
Any help?
Brian
I haven't worked on a group of files in a year, but nothing has changed.
- my UG is the same (NX 4)
- I did not install any updates
- I did not work on these files on another computer
- I get the same error for ALL of my UG files
- I am using 400 Mb of memory out of 1,600 available
- I have the...
One more thing...the background color of my model is light gray, but the animation background color is black. How do I change it to light gray, or white?
Brian
I know View > Visualization > Create animation
..but how do I define it first?
I have a main body, a latch with a hole, and a pin (3 parts in an assembly part) enabling the latch to rotate relative to the main body. In my assembly part, I have an expression called "latch angle" that...
I have re-checked my installation, by going thru the install process, and clicking "modify".
I have every available option included in the install. I did not see a seperate option for DXF exporting. Is there a way to check (maybe in Windows Explorer, under "Program Files"?) the installation...
OK, maybe I'm using the wrong function.
Say for example I wanted to model the side 2x4 beams in a house.
I'd sketch one beam, extrude it, then array it every 16".
What function should I use?
Thanks,
Brian
File > Export > DXF
As soon as I perform this series of clicks, I get an error:
"Translator image not found. The environment variable DXFDWG_DIR may not be set correctly."
How do I configure this? Any help?
Brian
Insert > Associative Copy > Instance > Rectangular Array
Everything works OK, including the preview, after all of the numeric values are entered, but when I click OK to create the array, I get the error, "Tool body completely outside of target body".
If the object to be arrayed is 2 inches...
As with most computer problems, it was "user error".
The hexagon sketch was not completely enclosed. Two lines did not share an endpoint.
Thanks for your help.
Brian
Thanks for your help and replies.
The hexagon is completely within the base circle of the cylinder.
The hexagon was created on the same datum plane as the base circle, but I didn't think that mattered.
Brian
I upgraded to NX4.
Very simple, very nooby question
Sketch circle, extrude to cylinder
Sketch square on top face of cylinder, extrude into cylinder body, subract, creating pocket in cylinder
Sketch hexagon on bottom face of cylinder, extrude into cylinder body, subtract, get error...
Thank you for your help.
4mranch1, I moved (did not delete) the psapi.dll file.
I also completely turned off my firewall, "Norton Personal Firewall 2003"
After these two steps, it installed successfully. :)
During the installation, it asked where psapi.dll file was. When I moved it back...
