    J1926 engineering data

Hello, Does anyone have the data for the construction of the male end of the J1926 fitting with a 3/4-16 thread? The back end of the thread where the 0 ring goes is the unknown. Thanks Smokehouse

    impossible to mold?

I agree that this is very moldable and with multiple cavities as well. The PL will be stepped of course with 2 side slides that would be below the PL(buried).

    Cavity blocking

99% of all molds we build have tunnel gates so having said that, most molders that want to block a cavity will already have the rotating sprue or if it's an 8 cavity for example, this will have A & B plate rotating inserts. (1" dia).. When they get in a hurry and DON'T have this...

    Cimitron questions

Hello, We are a mold building shop. At this time we use Solid works along with CADRA for our designs. SurfCam is used for CAM applications. Recently one of our engineers came in contact with Cimitron and now claims that it is vastly superior to anything we now have. Does anyone have experience...

    Urethane strippers?

We are quoting a piercing die. There will be several holes punched with an extrusion around the hole to take a #10 self tapping screw. my question is: Would urethane strippers work or should we quote this as having a standard steel stripper plate with springs and stripper bolts? The strip is 16...

OK, Here is the "Burning" question..

Sirius2, I mentioned the speed of board drawing - not to say that I still use it..I don't anymore. We use a combo of SW and 2d. The model of the part comes in 3d. Then we cut sections and import it via DXF to a 2d drawing for the floor..WHY? Because we still find this faster. It would be...

OK, Here is the "Burning" question..

Estassoc, I don't know of any 2d CAD program that is parametric. Unlike SW where you sketch and add dimensions to adjst the geometry. 2d must be drawn dimensionally correct FIRST, then the dimensions are "pulled" from the geometry.

OK, Here is the "Burning" question..

Rentapen, You bring up a great point - that the board is faster. I guess the younger designers would not agree with this but I sure do. I can design an entire mold on a board faster anyday than 99% can on CAD..The trouble is of course, now you have to store paper instead of an electric file...

OK, Here is the "Burning" question..

It seems like all we hear in the design business (dies, Molds) is go to 3d...Such as SW mainly. My question is: What percentage of tool designers are still using 2D Autocad?? And is this working ok for you?? Do you really want to go to 3D?? If you were going to buy a design package/software...

    line properties

Thanks for the info, I appreciate it. And will give it a go 1st thing in the AM.

    line properties

What is the easiest/best way to change a line's appearance from solid to dashed for example? I know about layers but is there a faster better way??

    balanced runners

I'll just add one more thing besides making the outermost runners a little larger and that is to vent the runners.

    reflective optic inserts

If you are talking about the mold inserts with little "diamonds" that make/form the reflective optics, they are called Electroforms. They are made of nickle and are a very specialized product whose methods of manufacture are somewhat secret.. The part that is plated on a reflective...

If Solid Works is so good...

Mandrake22, I didn't get the demo. Only studied everything on their site and had dialoge with a rep. Yes there was an addon for sheet metal. There is the sacred cow of associativity --- so if the drawing templates don't work then what good is it? Maybe that's one reason it's only 500 bux...

If Solid Works is so good...

MadMango, I got the Alibre site up and even got some dialoge going with their home office..This looks like a pretty good program alright. It runs almost exactly like SWX at 500 bux. What it will NOT do is split the part for mold design. Without that capability, a mold designer is SOL I'm...

    Mold Inserts from Chinese source???

This is why so many American moldmakers are out of work. It's called cutting our own throats!

to punch a .375 dia hole....

Thanks, That is what I was looking for. The holes in the strip need to be .375. The slug will be discarded. So we'll go with a .375 dia punch and add die clearance.

to punch a .375 dia hole....

We are going to design and build a blanking die. If I want to punch a .375 dia hole in the strip, would I use a .375 die opening minus clearance on the punch?

If Solid Works is so good...

I guess the reason I'm asking this is because I'm very comfortable with the 2D program we have now..We have 10 years of archives in house at this time with this program. But lately several customers are pushing hard for SWX. On one hand it sounds like SWX is the only game in town...On the other...
