In my offshore experience this type of monitoring is only done when required by a project or specific reason. Generally trying to "steady" the operaiton is not always easy as many offshore facilities have their rates set by consumer demand and must be able to increase and decrease...
The fire case relief is not always the determining relief case for a pressure vessel. In a fire, unless you have a vessel extremely full (which is rare on a platform) the relief is of vapour not liquid therefore you do not have liquid and gas being relieved during the fire relief. To determine...
There are various references around for doing first pass calculations, for example Campbell Gas text books. A vendor can also help, there are various around.
One suggestion is that at teh cooler temperatrue you got soem hydrocarbon liquid condensing which could cause the foaming. Have you tried approaching a vendor of amine systems to ask the question?
The last plant I was involved with had no slant, just an open end pointing upwards. The bottom of the upward leg had a small weep hole to deal with rain water.
Stock tank conditions are standard conditions, that is 15 deg C and 101.3 kPaa (or other units as required).
Shrinkage measures the difference in volume flow from reservoir conditions to stock tank conditions, alloqing for the light ends to flash off from the crude.
Maxxum,
If you are in the dense phase (above the critical point) then the relief has to be regarded as a thermal expansion of a vapour and the relief calculation becomes a little more difficult. Latent heat is not an issue under these conditions.
A couple of points to note:
1. ASME has been modified so that it is no longer a 2/3 rule - the hydrotest pressure has been changed from 1.5 times MAWP to 1.3 times.
2. For tube rupture in this case, if flashing is occurring across the tube break then the relief rate may be too high for a PSV to...
This should be a straight forward heat transfer calculation to determine the surface area required, then determine the number of coils to achieve the required area. A good heat transfer text will help you with this (try Process Heat Transfer by DQ Kern)
I have a spreadsheet based on the GPSA curves for water content of natural gas, where there is a correlation provided for the water content. If you send me your email address I'll send you a copy.
Gilzow,
To do what you are asking we use a simulation in HYSYS which applies the heat input to a series of flash vessels and over time the temeperature rises and boiling is predicted. By using this approach we get a better estimate of the relief temperature and a good idea of how the mixture in...
Yes there are a number of them. Get hold of the May 2002 issue of hydrocarbon processing which has a listing of all the major gas processes available, who licenses them and a description.
You should get the same answer either way as the 6894 applies to the 14.7 as much as the 25. According to my unit converter, 25 psig = 273721.8 Pa (absolute)172390 Pa (gauge) - a lot depends on your pressure base as to the exact answer to the above. Suffice to say, converting either way you need...
