Hey guys, I'm trying to run a simulation for a heat sink operating with natural convection. Does anyone know how to define the direction of gravity in solidworks simulation? Thanks for the help in advance

    Working at a research facility

Hi everyone, I'm wondering if anyone has, or knows someone that has, done mechanical engineering work at a research facility (ie. particle accelerator lab taking care of their machines and designing new components). If you have, how was the pay/work environment etc? Thanks for your help in advance

    Sales Engineers

Hey guys, I am looking to find a new job in the next couple of months and need some advice. One of the positions which I am looking at is with a HVAC equiptment sales company. From what I have heard (one of my friends had an intern position there before) the engineers there make very good money...

    Engineering Consulting Firms

Thanks for the replies. I'm in the Toronto region and am hoping to get a job at a consulting firm (don't have a specific one in mind). I was just wondering if anyone has experienced difficulty in getting a interview/employment by a consulting firm because they don't have a graduate degree.

    Engineering Consulting Firms

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone has had experience with engineering firms. Is it hard to get hired at one? Do you need to have a master's degree in order to be competitive?

    engineer/lawyer

Yeah that's true, experience can never hurt. I've been hearing friends who have friends that are chemical engineers and are making 200,000 - 300,000 a year, is this representative of the field? Or are they just BSing?

    engineer/lawyer

Thanks for the response guys, it seems that its way easier to make money as a lawyer than as an engineer haha. I'm looking at a 3 year course at the university of toronto, if this law thing somehow falls through and i get screwed over...do you guys think that I'll be able to get back into...

    Tension in a belt

Hi there, I am placing a new spring loaded tension arm to replace the old one in a belt drive. This tension arm will also be in a different location than the old one. I am concerned that placing the tension arm right before a wheel with a skinny shaft might cause it to bend. Is the tension in...

    3D interesect

ohhh right, haha havent used it in such a long time I can't even remember the function name. Thanks for the help guys!

    3D interesect

Hi, I am new to using solidworks, and am having trouble finding some of the features. I know that in CATIA there is a feature called 3D intersect. To use it, you create 2 profiles, and the resulting geometry would be the volume that is common to both profiles after they have been projected. Is...

Your grades in university and where you are now

Yeah there's no way of getting around learning after university, otherwise you get left in the dust.

Your grades in university and where you are now

Yeah I've heard some people say the same thing about "top grade" students. Some people find that they are brilliant at working out problems but do not function that well within a team at the work place when compared to a "B" student. Anyone else feel this way?

Your grades in university and where you are now

Yeah I agree with people wanting interns from their old school. I know that at the University of Waterloo, every undergrad engineer is required to complete 5 co-op terms before graduation. From my experience, alot of the hiring managers are also waterloo alumni. I guess when you have lots of...

Your grades in university and where you are now

Hey there, What are your thoughts on how well you did in university and where you are now? Do you think you would have a better job if you worked harder and got better grades? Anyone ever fail a course and felt that it shut doors?

Which one is more resource hungry?

Thanks guys, hopefully my current CATIA V5 R17 computer will be able to run solidworks 2007 smoothly.

Which one is more resource hungry?

Hey guys, I'm going to switch from CATIA to solidworks in a few days. I'm wondering which of the two programs require more system resources to run. In particular, does solidworks require a more advanced video card than catia? The reason I ask is on the catia site, it just says you need something...
