ECU Tuning Parameters for higher performance

Most systems operate in closed loop fuel control in idle, cruise and light load conditions. At high load the system works in open loop with fuel delivered based on the ECU map. An aftermarket "tune" can include an increased RPM limit, increased spark advance, increased boost level (for turbo...

    NCShane's engine dyno (thread71-174146 )

Hi Mikelantis, Yes, that is the unit that I have with the DE-CAT software. For now the unit is working well, but as you say it's hard to get repair parts for it. Thanks for the contact in the US. I'll give thema call if we run into any problems. NCShane

    NCShane's engine dyno (thread71-174146 )

Mikelantis I have a DC6000 controller with DynoCat PC interface. I was told that there was little support available for the DynoCat software. Are you still supporting this equipment/software? NCShane

Ignition timing for Methanol vs Gasoline

The combined A/F is simply %A/F 1 + %A/F 2 So for 20% methanol, .2(6.4) + .8(14.6)= 12.96 This still doesn't help you since your A/F meter is calibrated for a stoich. ratio of 14.6. You can set your meter to read Lambda, then multiply by your combined A/F ratio to find your correct A/F.

    Trouble Sourcing Specialty Fuel Injectors

samplesecond: I'm not available by phone for a while because I am in Brazil working on a calibration project. If you can send me an email with a few more detials, I'll try to put you in touch with the right person in the US. We are making small size injectors for alcohol and CNG powered vehicles...

It's an engine dyno. It's a 460 Hp 8000 RPM unit with GE drives and Schenck controls. Unfortunately the software is a bit outdated, but Horiba bought out Schenck and no longer supports the dyno control equipment.

bsfc9: the DEPAC patent info is interesting, I have a few comments, but I want to finish reading it first fishracer: We have a Schenck Pegasus AC unit.

    Trouble Sourcing Specialty Fuel Injectors

I work in R&D at Marelli USA. Who did you speak to here? 13g/sec is a very high flow. I don't think that any of our standard "Pico" injectors flow that much. What kind of quantity are you looking for. I might be able to help out.

I don't know anything about the DEPAC stuff, but I took a look at the website this morning. It doesn't look like they are doing anything unique with their controls system. They don't seem to give any details about their "Special Statistical Process" but I'm not sure how any processed data could...

    Anti-Freeze Question

The pressure has much more effect on boiling point than the glycol. From Bosch handbook: glycol %by vol. Boiling Pt. deg. C 0 100 10 101 20 102 30 104 40 106 50...

composition of the diesel smoke produce at diesel burners of boilers

For stiochiometric combustion of light diesel you would have 12.3 Moles of C02 11.1 Moles of H2O 17.85 Moles N2 the problem is that diesel will combust at a wide range of air/fuel ratios, depending on the fuel composition, injection timing, etc. so this is a very rough estimate of the actual...

It sounds like this dyno would be pretty good for back to back component or set-up comparisons. Will you be getting the on that has a water brake attachted to it also? That would give the ability to do your initail calibration at steady state. As for the filtering question, our ac dyno has four...

Ignition timing for Methanol vs Gasoline

I can't say that I have any experience with methanol. On E85 we run about 3-4 degrees above base timing on an NA engine. I would think that 6 degrees total (is that total or on top of your base timing??) wouldn't be nearly enough. EGT's will definitely get high if have too much advance or too...

Well, it seems like the "inertia" of the car will increase as it accelerates, since the drag/downforce will increase at higher speed. Even if you factor the aero drag effects into the initail mass, they don't have any way to dynamically adjust it for speed. Most of the cup guys that I know are...

Ignition timing for Methanol vs Gasoline

    lambda=(AF actual/AF stoich) so lambda = .65 is an AF of 4.16

fishracer, where in NC is this dyno located? Just curious.

You are right, the inertia mass doesn't affect the steady state test. The only dyno that I am familiar with that uses a configuration like this is a dyno-jet chassis dyno. They use an inertia drum to measure hp on all of their units, and then add an eddy-current brake to the system if you want...

Thats a pretty typical configuration for chassis dynos, but I haven't seen many engine brakes set up that way. The inertia can be adjusted by adding/removing flywheels for different size engines. This gives you a cheap and easy way to do some transient testing. The absorber is used for steady...

    Muffler shape/design, flow, and noise?

Well, I am by no means an expert in this area, but I did alot of research during my years working on a Formula SAE car in school. Another good source that I used is Design and Simulation of Four Stroke Engines by Gordon Blair. He basically says that an absorption muffler (packed deisgn as you...
