We use HydroCAD for most of our projects. Very user friendly, intuitive interface, relatively low cost, easy-to-read output. Support is excellent. I've had no complaints.
If we could just get them to incorporate HSPF-like modelling...
We've utilized both pipe storage and chambers for detention and retention of runoff. The cost tradeoff for us is usually related to particular site constraints - depth to groundwater, the amount of fall that's available through the system, the area that can be utilized, etc. We find that...
I'm running RedHat's Linux. Can someone recommend an easy-to-use FTP utility? I'm new to using this type of file transfer, and it looks like I'll be doing more of it in the future.
A couple of years ago, I took a course (I think it was through UW's PEPL program for engineers) which provided a detailed overview and some hands-on time with the software, including a simplified design for a stormwater facility. The instructor for the course was from Northwest Hydraulic...
I'd just like to emphasize the previous response. HydroCAD is an inexpensive solution to many hydrologic calculation and design issues. It doesn't do everything (backwater situations, for example), but it does many calculations in an easy-to-follow format with detailed customizable printouts.
We have been using HydroCAD for several years for storage and treatment system design and have found it to be a very powerful combination of routines for a variety of tasks. Definitely a bargain for the price!
