Energy to Break Apart a Weld

I'm a structural engineer working for the department of defense. I am currently trying to predict the throw distance for pieces of a structure following an internal detonation of a munition. We have a 3 sided box with a ceiling. The box is made of steel panels which are welded to a steel...

Coefficient of Friction b/w Concrete and Soil

Thanks for the help. I'm still not quite sure what I need to do to solve my problem, but I do know that I need to investigate further into my geotechnical report.

Coefficient of Friction b/w Concrete and Soil

Hello all, I'm trying to prove that a foundation design is adequate for sliding for a soil having an effective friction (phi') of 37 degrees. Is the coefficient of friction (mhu) between the concrete and the soil equal to the tangent of the effictive friction (37 degrees)? I want to double...

    Foundation Anchorage Rehab

I have recently learned that in many new residences being constructed the homes are not at all anchored to the foundation. There are no anchor bolt connections between the sill plate and the cmu stemwall. Additionally, stemwalls are not fully grouted or grouted at set intervals. Since these...

    LBM vs. LBF (and Slugs)

Hello All! A college student I know was recently asking me a question about nomenclature that I was not sure I could clearly answer. I am hoping that you can provide me some guidance and a more logical explanation to provide him. What is the difference between a lbm and a slug and how do...

    Masonry Design

I like "Design of Reinforced Masonry Structures" by Narendra Taly, Ph.D,P.E. Published by McGraw Hill. It has all of the things you mentioned plus many more. It especially helped me during my first encounters with masonry because it explains the dimensions and reinforcing requirements very well.
