Maybe things have changed since I started in 1977, but at that time the expertise of designing HVAC systems was as much art as science. The variety of possible situations you encounter is so large that it is very difficult to learn other than "by doing" while working under another...
I am looking for something like this. I actually have this done in a spreadsheet so it looks different:
PM for DX System
1. Risk assessment and verify permits.
2. Confirm Equipment ID Numbers.
3. Visual and audible inspection of unit operation.
4. PERFORM LOTO!
5. Obtain CSE if required...
Can anyone send me to a site online that has step-by-step maintenance procedures for HVAC equipment.
We are needing to develop these at our plant site and I can't believe there is not a site online that has many of these things already detailed. I am hoping to find some that are substantially...
Here is an update:
I got from the manufscturer that if I "lock out" the 2nd compressor I can cut airflow to 200 CFM per ton on the operating compressor.
So I am thinking: Use the T-stat to enable the compressor, and the leaving air sensor to drive the air to 55F or colder. Using a VFD run...
I am looking at a project that was not my design but is now mine to resolve.
Without having access to the early design decisions, it appears that the rooftop units are about 2 x as big as necessary. When the thermostat calls for cooling, it is satisfied pretty quickly, thus the compressor does...
Well, I don't know what I would pay. I haven't been able to find anything that is even of that size very often. I did see a 6.5 hp I think it was for about $2500. I gotta tell you, that seems like robbery to me, but what do I know?
I prefer diesel because my truck is diesel, so that...
I am interested in obtaining a small diesel engine to use on a home-built off-road vehicle project of mine. Something on the order of 5-10 hp would be all I need.
But either I am not good at finding them or they are hard to find, at least at any price I would be willing to pay.
Does anyone...
I have a friend who has a friend (no, really) who flies a helicopter for a living. As I understand it, they have to test the fuel very often and then have to discard the fuel pulled for the test. They generate a couple of hundred gallons of clean, waste JP4 fuel each month. Until now they...
I have to disagree with the majority here.
My experience is that natural gas and propane engines run cleaner and longer than diesel.
Maintainance is less.
You don't have to worry about ground contamination with a leak.
I love my diesel truck, but some folks think they smell.
AND if it is...

you are right about the torque convertor.
I have also considered powering this bike with a small diesel engine. Anybody know of a source for reasonably priced small diesel engines?
Pardon me, this is WAY out of my field (HVAC design), but I have an interest in it.
Anybody familiar with the Rokon off road motorcycles? They are 2 wheel drive using (what appears to me) to be a pretty complex mechanical drive system.
It occurs to me that it would be much neater to use a...
AbbyNormal, what you are saying is exactly what I would expect, and what I was thinking.
In this case, both the motor and the driven equipment are in the space, so the complete load is added to the A/C load.
I may have accidentally misled, in that there are a number of smaller convetors in...
Don't get me wrong, I am not arguing, I just want to make sure I understand this.
If a fan is blowing air, the heat from the motor and the velocity of the air all ends up being converted to heat. This I understand.
However, if in the conveyor, all the energy is converted to heat in the...
Ok, I feel really dumb about this. It seems like it should be straight forward, but I can't wrap my head around it.
I have a project with about 250 hp of conveyor motors. These conveyors move product both horizontally and vertically. Eventually, one of the conveyors moves the product out of...
You know, it is best to be careful what you wish for.
After all my years of bitching about architects, the shoe is on the other foot.
I have a client who has a metal building, currently only ventilated. He wants to air condition it, not heat it. He wants to use a spray on insulation.
My...
It has been a long time since I designed stair pressurization systems, so I suspect the code has changed.
However, when we were working in buildings each stairwell had its own fan system. Thus you would have 2-3 doors open in each stairwell.
I do not believe the intent is to assume that there...
