    Invisible weld?

Thanks, Cory! Are there any links or further information on those methods? Everything I am seeing online has a noticeable 'pockmark' on both of the sides of the Resistance spot and Projection samples. Thanks!

    Invisible weld?

Hi guys! Have a project where the butt-weld (well, actually two 45 degree chamfered pieces coming together - think picture frame) used on pretty thin (85 thou thick) aluminum need to be 'invisible'. The pieces are held together and the customer is okay with a small gap remaining between them -...

    Standard carbon steel barrier coating

Great. Thank you everyone! Any suggestions on permanent adhesion of foam to it? Trying to use cyanoacrylate (or any one-part, I suppose) if it can be helped. Got suggestions from 'The Handbook of Rubber Bonding' but if there are any more, would be glad to hear. Thanks again!

    Standard carbon steel barrier coating

Hello! I am researching a product improvement application that will require adhering a (rubber foam) item to a surface of a conventional nail clipper. In researching the adhesive/process most applicable, I wanted to find out what specifically is the standard anti-oxidant coating used in this...

    Attaching foam to plasticized PVC

You are right. Thanks again! I'm pursuing this lead, with some good results from initial tests. Weld-on P-68 Primer (just primer, not even glue!) seems to glue PVC foam to reasonably heavily plasticized PVC quite well.

    Attaching foam to plasticized PVC

Thanks for the reply, sir. I will investigate that option, but I believe that foamed PVC is unlikely to provide enough resistance in normal usage - being either too hard or too brittle. Thank you, however!

Permanently attaching rubber foam to plasticized PVC

In order to address my question located in the adhesives and sealants section of the forum, trying to attract the most knowledge available on the subject, and going off of the moderators' past suggestions as how to deal with gathering as much information as possible while 'not cross-posting' -...

    Attaching foam to plasticized PVC

Oh, and is the picture referenced in the message above. :)

    Attaching foam to plasticized PVC

Hey guys - have a question for you... a product that I am developing has an extruded length (32" long) of plasticized PVC covered by foam (not sure exactly what formulation is being used now by subcontractor) – but whatever is required/suggested can be obtained. The profile of geometry in...

    Peel Adhesion measured in N/10mm

Figured it out. :) Only the length along the peel line matters in determining peel strength - since the area will be attacked by the peel 'gradually'. Thanks, -Gene

    Peel Adhesion measured in N/10mm

Hello everyone! Writing this post in search of a bit of help. I'm evaluating if a specific adhesive is useful for my application, but am getting stumped by the datasheet. 3m 9469PC is what I'm planning to use to adhere a length of acrylic-modified PVC to a (possibly electroplated?) thin steel...

Are all car roof materials similar?

Thank you, guys! Thanks for the info, Greg. I guess I was just wondering if there are any specific "guidelines" or "rules of thumb" that are used for body/roof design that I'm not aware of... or any suggestions that the manufacturers have been reducing panel thicknesses as of late. If not, all...

Are all car roof materials similar?

Thanks, Pat. That definitely would have a major effect - luckily roof repairs/patches seem to be quite uncommon and the usual encounters thus far have been with clean sheets of bent steel.

Are all car roof materials similar?

Hello everyone! I am developing a product which uses magnets to attach to the roof of cars. I am aware that some cars use aluminum or fiberglass in their construction - that's easy to test for. Ignoring this, the question that I have is - is there any information to help me be sure that all...

Roof Rack "Wind Tunnel": A Naive Idea?

Yeah, it's been done before. The same guy, Burt Rutan, whose company did the stuff in the picture a few years ago (in developing SpaceShipOne) used his car with an airplane scale model on top in developing his first few aircraft. No pictures of that I could easily find online...

    Assembly components not visible

Hey guys, had a question. I am running CATIA V5.18 SP4 and am running into a problem. I'm exporting an assembly from SolidWorks into CATIA as an .STP. I get CATIA to read the STP in and save as a converted document. From thereon out, I open my big assembly, which the smaller exported assembly...

Simple Creep/Slump Testing of a Cylindrical Part

To bring some closure to this question - I did some more research and found a paper at... http://www.composites.wsu.edu/publications2/NTpooler.pdf which describes how to modify the constants c1g and c2g used in the WLF equation to reflect a specific reference temperature other than glass...

Simple Creep/Slump Testing of a Cylindrical Part

Thanks for your help. I've been trying to get the value for a_T as described by the WLF equation, and from the way the WLF equation is defined, it looks like that value of a_T will always be less than unity. Now, that makes no sense, if the way to use a_T is divide the time ordinate in the...

Simple Creep/Slump Testing of a Cylindrical Part

Hello, I'm trying to figure out how a part made from a viscoelastic thermoplastic material will deform with time. Is there a simple method to do this? The problem can be simplifid to a 2-d state. I can obtain relevant material values for an analytical test, or if you can suggest a way to relate...

Adhering wax to polycarbonate, CTE effects

Thanks, IRstuff.. All of your comments are valid, the problem is that polycarbonate is a hard requirement. Tried the thin coating approach - it doesn't work well enough. I am very much in need of a way to actually modify the material (wax). I'd be very much willing to reduce the failure stress...
