    Boiler Insulation Materials

Hi folks, Heres one for you... We have just stripped the insulation off one of our Boilers, most of it is fairly poor condition so it now needs replacing. If I ask our insluation contractor he will just put Rockwool on and clad it. Is this the best material around, or is there something that...

    TREVITESTS of safety valves

Hi, On our site we use Furmanite to Treviest our valve on our steam mains every year, our Inspector is happy with this certification. This is for 50psi reduced from 210psi. It is still scary, but not as scary as actually lifting the valves by floating them. However he does insist on...

ASTM A106 GrB. What is the Temp and Press range

Working for a tight company who wdon't like buying standards. Can anyone let me know where I can get the Temperature and Pressure specification of ASTM A106 GrB pipe. I am especially interested in the low temperature limits. Regards, Biggy

Hastelloy type for hydrochloride acid and sodium hydroxide

I would probably go for a PFA/PTFE lined sample valve. We use a lot Manufacturers whe have used CRP-Flexrite, Technova, Halwachs. Can get a bit pricy but do the job. They have some good safety features most of them will design around a standard valve for unusual duties. Good luck. Biggy

    Painting GRP Tanks.

The tank has a slight chalkyness - is that a real word? It is now! - to the surface. There are no exposed fibres, the The tank is 7m High x 2.75m Dia. The resin is Crysic 397 (Bader).

    Painting GRP Tanks.

I have a couple of very 'tired' looking Celmar (PolyProp)Lined GRP (Fibre Glass) tanks, internally there is nothing wrong, but the outside has lots of staining from 'old' weeping joints, rust staining from rain/mild steel fittings etc. I have been asked to give them a coat of paint! So the...

Need a coupling for SS tubing with same OD as the tubing

Basically what you need is a 'barrel nipple' (threaded boths ends with the centre bored out), then just thread the id of the tube ends to suit. It would be a special fitting so you would need to test it, but a good fitter should be able to make one. Or you could just weld it! Biggy

    Mild Steel and HaOH?!?!

I'm lead to believe that the caustic becomes coloured thus one can have process problems down stream. You mention that mild steel and 24% caustic should be ok, are there concentrations where it is a problem? Biggy

    Mild Steel and HaOH?!?!

I'm about to spec up and install a pipe run for 24% NaOH at Ambient Temp. I'm fairly sure that I don't need to stress relieve it. My main question is on passivating prior to use. I was always under the impression that caustic lines need passivating prior to start up. (i.e fill with caustic...

    Do Hastelloy C276 threads gall??

Unfortunaltey I cannot use wax or 'ordinary greases' to chemical compatibility. I am proposing to use a PTFE based grease (Fomblin or Halocarbon) to reduce the wear but, with all these sort of issues, the proposal is the easy bit. It is actually getting the approvals to 'try' it. Thanks for...

    Galling Phenomena: Info Sources

I got some good data from Haynes International regarding galling/wear of Nickel Alloys. They have a technical help line on their web page. Biggy

    Do Hastelloy C276 threads gall??

Thanks for that. I have been in touch with Haynes International and they have wear and galling data for their alloys and the simple answer is yes they do, but not to the same extent as stainless. Biggy

Difference Between PN and ANSI Rating

They are dimensionally different. Also ANSI is an imperial standard and BS4504 PNxx are metric. A good source of flange tables is the RGB Stainless Ltd, Stainless Steel Products Manual. If you ask them nicely they will send you a free one!! Biggy [thumbsup2]

    Do Hastelloy C276 threads gall?

Thanks Bruv! I did that as well, and did get some useful data from the Haynes guys. But if anyone does have any actuall experience of Hast C276 threads galling, rather than raw test data, I would be glad to hear from you! Biggy

    Do Hastelloy C276 threads gall??

Does any one have any experience of Hastelloy C276 threads galling, like stainless steel does? Also does anyone have any data on the coefficient of friction for Hast C276 threads? Thanks in adavance Biggy

    Cleaning Hastelloy Vessels

I have has similar film on Hastelloy vessels, ours was put down to a result of attack of the hastelloy since the percentage Ni and Cr were the same as the content of the grade we were using! We used steam and water to clean it sucessfully. Biggy
