Hi,
Does anyone know whether AIEE papers can be found online? I'm looking at a bibliography and several references are older AIEE Trans. publications. Is there a major compilation online similar to the IEEE papers/standards?
Thanks,
Richard Byrne.
So I did some number crunching after a small revelation I just had - it seems like the number comes from the expression for the assymetrical peak current (which is based on the ac and dc components).
Just as in the calculation of the multiplier for the rms case, the peak (crest) multiplier...
Hi everyone,
I'm conducting an ANSI (A_Fault) study using SKM Power Tools and have a question about the multiplier used for the crest kA it "spits out."
I have figured out from the ANSI/IEEE standards that the multiplier for momentary current (i.e. 1.6) is for the half-cycle current, but where...
Hi,
Has anyone had any experience with the NE592 video amplifier IC? I'm trying to amplify a square wave at 1.5 Mhz, but the output is very distorted. The distortion appears not to be harmonic distortion, but phase distortion.
I have built the circuit on a breadboard and have now soldered all...
Hi all, could anyone tell me what the test terminals on a window-type Current Transformer are intended for: what type of "tests" might we use them for?
Richard Byrne, E.E.T.
Another thought - could you describe the condensers? You mentioned in you first post that each condenser is grounded at each end - does this mean that each condesr has two ground connections?
Just interested...

You're welcome.
I would prefer that someone verify my recommendations before you approach your electrical staff, just to make sure I'm giving you the right information about which test to carry out.
After reading a section of my book "Operating, Testing, and Preventive Maintenance of...
That's what I figured h20dr.
When maintaining electrical distriubtion equipment and motors, the insulation resistance is tested (although not always), using a dc test voltage above the ac rating of the equipment under test, in order to stress the insulation temporarily.
This test voltage causes...
Would an appropriate test involve testing the motor's insulation resistance, from phase to ground, at 5 kV dc? This, I would think, would check the quality of the insulation which, if the resistance is too low, would cause a high resistance ground fault not picked up by the overcurrent...
Thanks to you both for you clear replies - now it's all straight in my mind. I'll be printing out this thread for sure for use in the future.
waross, thanks for the insight into the "just in case" design, with regard to the PM generator/ AVR and the standard AVR. I'll bear that in mind for the...
I've been looking at Kohler generators, to get a feel for what they are like. I noticed that they have:
permanent magnet (PM)-excited alternators
and
brushless, rotating-field alternator.
Please confirm (or else deny) that I understand these two terms.
PM-excited alternator means that a...
I attended a job on Saturday where we maintained a delta/wye-connected transformer. The nameplate showed the normal tap voltage reference chart, with tap 2 shown to provide a line-line secondary voltage of 600 V, from a 4160 V input. Also shown on this chart was "% rated voltage" for each tap...
Hi Everyone,
I was asked at work to find out about a Fischer Porter device, which I was told was a liquid flow measurement device. My initial Google and ABB-website searches have yielded nothing helpful, so I was wondering whether anyone could point me in the direction of some documentation...

I didn't expect to be using the Momentum at all at the start of my project. It turned out that my contacts at Schneider Electric only had that PLC to lend me, but it worked out to be great to work with.
While the programming software I used (ProWorx NxT) wasn't as powerful as Allen Bradley's...
itsmoked,
I have just completed my final year college project using a Modicon Momentum, I would be glad to answer your questions.
1. The internal circuitry of the discrete output base is arranged such that 120 Vac is supplied to row 1 on the base. This input is to be fused (according to...
I am trying to understand the cause of the increase in line currents from the secondary of a three phase transformer, when the primary winding of the same transformer has faulted and has opened. (Assuming a balanced motor load).
My Bussmann "Selecting Protective Devices" book shows only the...
Thank you both for your answers.
I was once told that 1" was required between adjacent phase bus bars, and given that I learned that the dielectric strength of air is approx. 3kV/mm (7.62kV/in), 1" is more than enough. But I was just curious about what the code requirement was.
Thanks again...
