    Fire Flooding with Oxygen

That's been kind of my experience. Hard to find anything concrete. It must be buried under the end-zone at some stadium in New Jersey.

    Fire Flooding with Oxygen

Haven't checked with API. Is that really SPE?

    Fire Flooding with Oxygen

Is there any information on the experience with fire-flooding an old field with oxygen (not just with air). I've heard there is, but I only get some very limited information on the subject when I Google this topic. How successful has this been, what is the experience level, etc. etc.

    ASU Design Basics

Can anyone point me to some basics for how an ASU plant works? Like pressure, number of stages, outlet pressures of products, purity. Maybe rules of thumb for estimating overall performance Appreciate.

    Solar Trackers

And a lot of panels go on top of roofs. WalMart probably wouldn't want their roof crashing in on them if their solar panels were too heavy because of the additional weight (I use Walmart as an example, because somewhere I heard a factoid that if all Walmart stores were covered with PV panels...

    Solar Trackers

I think the interest you are seeing on those tracking systems is a) they are big b) they are getting big subsidies. They don't pay for themselves, but if the price of power is high (and growing) and the subsidy is good, they can just about break even. And then some accountant can claim credits...

    Estimating Cost of Radiant HX

Can someone provide me with some insight on estimating (very high level) a cost for a radiant-type heat exchanger? The device I'm looking for will operate at 40 bar, 1200 C on the gas phase, and under reducing conditions. I'm looking at 80% efficiency with 1,000,000 lb/hr of gas flow. Is...

    CO2 + H2 Reactions

Are there any commercial processes where CO2 and H2 are used directly to produce a useful hydrocarbon product, such as methanol, ethanol, or possibly all the way to paraffins?

    Oxygen power plant power usage

A rule of thumb I use for a cryogenic plant is 345 kW-hr/ton of oxygen (at about 95% purity)

    Corrosion by High Temp Steam

I understand in the boiler industry that steam is corrosive, and corrosivity increases with steam temperature. Is there any data showing how steam corrosion increases with temperature (and possibly pressure). Up to 1300 C

    Discount Rate for New Projects

I'm modeling a very large project ($billions). What sort of range of discount factor for cash flow in investment does industry typically use for mammoth projects? I assumed a factor of 8%; but I'd like some other advice. This project is akin to something in the oil and gas refining sector...

Ethanol Improves Efficiency in Gasoline Engine?

I realize there are a ton of comments on ethanol. But I ran across a story from a team in Philadelphia that claimed that injecting liquid ethanol into the gasoline engine (probably just before spark ignition occurs), resulted in 20-25% improvement in efficiency (in the engine--not sure if this...

    Fluidized Bed Mass Throughput

Considering an atmospheric fluidized bed, like one that might be used to burn coal or shredded tires. What would be an reasonable mass throughput per unit area of the bed (assuming the bed is something like limestone/dolomite). I was looking at a process, and trying to figure out how many tons...

    1800 RPM vs 3600 RPM

So it sounds like the nuke units are just physically larger than fossil steam units, so they would spin slower?

    1800 RPM vs 3600 RPM

I think most nuclear reactors spin their steam turbines at 1800 RPM, or 1/2 the speed of those used on fossil plants. Any idea why the slower rotational speed on the nukes?

    Shale Oil Solvent Extraction

Is there any experience (successful or otherwise) on using solvents to extract the oil from shale? I understand thermal heating is one process to drive the oil out, but wonder if solvents (like supercritical CO2 or others) have been explored? Any experience out there?

    Electricity used in EOR

Well, that sounds really interesting. Have you tried contacting one of the national labs? They might have some interest or exposure.

    Gasification: Pernis

At the Shell gasifier in the Netherlands, they use a feed referred to as VFCR. What does that refer to? Is it a liquid? Does anyone know the API gravity or sulfur content?

Maximum bcf in Natural Gas Pipeline

Thanks everyone. I've received quite an education.

    Coal Gasification

You can use a program called GasEq. I got it off the web, and its a pretty good equilibrium program. I think a high performance code like ASPEN is ideal, if you have $10,000 to acquire a license.
