    Subpanel question

I have a 100 amp 30 pole 3 phase 4w main 208/120 lighting panel. Fed by a 30 KVA transformer. This is an industrial application. Can I install a 3 phase 100 amp subpanel or should I go with a 60 amp ? What is the code on this and what is the article in the NEC?

Voltage present on induction motor shaft

DUCKPILOT- I work in the power generation buisness and shaft voltage is a common effect on our plant generators. What we do is install a brush rigging or copper braids to ride on the saft and connect it to ground to bleed off induced voltage on the shaft.

    Relay driving

I don't know about the rest of you guys. But I am totally lost as to what tensi is talking about. Are you saying you have a fluctuating voltage ? What kind of system is this ? What is the application ? Perhaps a relay is not the answer for your circuit. Is this perhaps an undervoltage relay ?

    Baldor Motors/SFA

tmo42, SF is simply a multipier of horse power. It is the acceptable limit that a motor can be loaded to without damage. I have been a technician for 20 years and I have never sized a motor to a load using it's SF or SFA. A motor with a 1.15 SF is a better motor than a 1.00 SF. It's just a...

    Finding cable fault location

nraju, As mentioned previously, thumping is a high voltage pulse that is designed to create a larger more noticable fault that can be observed visualy or audibly. I have seen the results and it is a nasty but effective meathod. Usually reserved for finding small high voltage cable faults that...

    Device for determining cable lenth

Does anyone know of an instrument on the market that can be used to determine the lenth of a cable. I have to re-design a PLC remote I/O system and I am limited to 10,000 feet per channel. This is a large sytem and remote racks are very far apart. I need to determine the lenth of my run before I...

Reversing a three phase electric motor.

All of the info above is accurate. But as mentioned above more is needed about your aplication. If it is a 3 phase squirrel cage motor or most 3 phase motors. All you need to do is swap 2 of the 3 phases. But if you want permanent control to change from forward to reverse at will, you need a...

Why are overload contacts wired to neutral side of coil

It's done purely for convienience. I have seen applications where the OL's were on the hot side and this is actually a better method. But is not the norm. Assume you picked up a ground on the neutal side of the coil prior to the OL's. Your motor would burn up if an overload condition exsisted...

    Single phase power question.

I have been asked a particular question manys times and have had a hard time explaining it. So maybe some of you bright gentlemen or ladies can help me better articulate my answer. In a single phase 240 volt load. I am using a 2 pole 30 amp breaker to supply the load. Now, if I have 30 amps per...

    3 phase question

I have a question about breakers. If I have a 20 amp 3 pole breaker. On a 208v 3 phase 4 wire load. Do I have 20 amps per phase capacity to ground or 20 amps total phase to phase ? Example : I am running a 3 phase 208v 4 wire to 3 1000w heaters. 1 heater per phase and a nuetral. The heaters are...
