    Pipe Cleanliness Standards?

Does anyone know of a standard for ordering pipe to a certain cleanliness? We have been receiving "dirty" pipe, but have no specifications which define clean or dirty. We are also having issues keeping the plastic caps on the ends for storage, so if anyone knows a good alternative I would...

    Water meters in 13R system

Oops allow me to revise the last post. I wish there was an edit button. Maybe I am missing something, but isnt the FP system bypassing the water meter anyway? In every job I have designed a sprinkler system for the sprinkler system doesnt have anything to do with the water meter, and is...

    Water meters in 13R system

Maybe I am missing something, but isnt the FP system bypassing the water meter anyway? In every job I have designed a sprinkler system for there the sprinkler system doesnt have anything to do with the water meter, and is seperated from the potable water by a double check valve.

Any Plumbing Engineers with their own start up?

I am about to accept a job as a Plumbing Engineer. It has always been my dream to start a consulting business eventually. In 4 years I should have my PE. My main concern is that I only really hear about HVAC and Strucurals starting their own consulting business. Does anyone know if plumbing...

I need advice on a new career (Plumbing Engineer)

Thanks for the heads up SlideRuleEra. I have actually had an interview with Kohler, and they took me out for diner. The 3 engineers I met with were very rude and inappropriate. I had really wanted a job with them, until I met some of my would-be coworkers. I imagine there are alot of fixture...

    Women in the workplace...

Well as a guy with a few women engineer friends, I can say that it does happen alot. Probably not to the extent it seems to be happening to you though. Being left out of business meetings and being chastised, is very unusual though. I would recommend looking for a new position. There is no...

I need advice on a new career (Plumbing Engineer)

Well I guess my ultimate goal would be to learn about all MEPs,get my PE, and then start my own consultant agency. Maybe I am nieve, but I want to own my own business some day. Trying to do that in the manufacturing world would be much more challenging I suppose. Its wierd where I am ending...

I need advice on a new career (Plumbing Engineer)

Thanks for the advice guys. PSE, I agree with you about establishing a "baseline". That is why I am asking these questions. I really want to start a career that I will stay with for a long time. My fear is that I will be picking something that will limit my income. I have seen alot of high...

I need advice on a new career (Plumbing Engineer)

A plumber does the installation. I would be designing the plumbing systems for multi millions dollar projects. For hospitals, college buildings, and various other large buildings. They want me to get my PE, so I imagine it is a bit more technical than simply installing pipe.

I need advice on a new career (Plumbing Engineer)

I also wanted to ask what type of wages are normal for a Mechanical Engineer with 1 year of experience? One offer I have is for $50k/year the Milwaukee area. Is that good?

I need advice on a new career (Plumbing Engineer)

Hi, I am a mechanical engineer. Last summer I took a job (at the recommendation of engineers on this forum) as a fire protection sprinkler designer. I like the job, but the possibilities for advancement are not there. Well I have recently got an offer to become a plumbing engineer. The new...

Guys, Thanks so much for your input!!! I think I may like this job. I took the offer. I will try to get back to this post and let you know my findings. Again, thanks alot! I was so apprehensive(sp?) about this particular job, as far advancement would go as a mechanical engineer. I have a...

    Should I take this job?

Thanks for the advice guys, I really apreciate it. I am so glad I found this website. Im from a small town so I don't ever get a chance to ask any engineers for advice. Thanks again.

    Should I take this job?

Well rhodie, I dont really think I have it all figured out as a fresh grad. Im not even sure what you mean by that. I also dont think they are a bunch of idiots. The bottom line is that there is a shortage of Fire Protection Designers out there and they need anyone with a technical background...

    Should I take this job?

The way I understand it, is that will just be looking at blue prints, plugging a couple numbers in a a computer program, then designing where the prinkler heads go. I may be missing something, but they have no engineers on staff as of now(out of 200 employees).
