no, theres no free satellite service, at least that I've heard of. Most of them are very expensive to setup, and quite a few are download only - you still need a dial-up to upload or send requests. Look into getting ADSL or cable internet. Cheaper and much more reliable.

let me guess - the dialup adapter is appearing in windows 98, yeah? it seems to be a common thing, that windows just adds in to any networking device. Techincally, its actually a modem, or something similar - if it isn't causing problems, then just leave it.

what type of mobile PC do you have? If its a Tosh or Dell, then check out their site for removable drives. We've got several laptops within my workplace that have swappable drives, mostly CR-RWs & DVDs

If you put the Windows XP cd in your computer, it will boot from that and should give you the option of reformatting the drive (choose NTFS)
Make sure you run the compatibility checker from the windows CD first though, as it will tell you what programs will work under XP, and if any hardware...
Garry,
Microsoft have stated that "NT 4 does not support USB, and there are no plans in the future to alter this".
Check out the USB pendrive manufacturer's website - you may be in luck with them having a little piece of software that will allow a connection but be warned - such...
Instead of trying to get some software, if there is any that can do this available, tell 'em to purchase a lockdown kit, which you can use to secure the monitor and base unit to the desk or wall. generally quite cheap, considering its a couple of bits of high-tensile wire cable.

Bannu,
what do you mean, written to the processor? The processor does not store any data whatsoever.
Grab a copy of McAfee's Uninstaller. Best thing I've ever seen for removing old programs and stuff.

The WYX virus affects only the master boot record. What has happened is you've replaced the system files from the Win98se boot disk, which has overwritten the MBR with files from the floppy. Unfortunately, this means it has removed the option to boot into NT.
You've probably got rid of the...
You should be OK with replacing the hubs with switches. As you know, switches are simply intelligent hubs - instead of repeating every burst of dat out to every port, a switch will send it only on the port that the computer that the data is meant is actually on.

Get the guy who's complaining to check the internal temp of each machine. If it's not to high (below 45 celcius preferably), then tell him to go sling his hook. Tell him if he wants extra cooling in the room, it comes out of his department's budget.

Are you running W98se?
If you are, there is a known shut down problem for which you can download a patch.

I'm not sure what your asking here. I'm going to assume that you mean how fast can data be sent over the Internet.
There are several parts to this. First of all, the speed of the sending and recieving computers. The faster they can process, then the more data tehy can send or recieve at once...
select the excel file that you want to open, and then copy it by pressing ctrl+c together.
right-click on the task bar on the bottom of the screen and select properties
then select start menu programs>advanced
select the startup folder from the file tree, and then paste (ctrl+v) the file into...
put the lot into a spreadsheet, wit different colums for the different items of data (memory, processor, OS etc etc) and then use that as a base for reports. you can use that to say how many PC's are under the current minimum spec, which could do with upgrading or being binned.
its not all that...
might be worth reformatting the hard drive again.
to allow FORMAT to work, download a small file called DELPART.EXE. This will allow you to remove all partitions on your drive, allowing a clean format of the whole drive. Then use FORMAT and try reinstalling windows.
heres a link to the tool...
Depends on how much info you want, really. Just finished doing an IT audit at one place, which involved me logging every computer, its specs, what software and all associated peripherals, its physical location and also what network port it was connected to.
Its one heck of a time consuming job...
