Hi, We have an application in whic

For C4 and above Hydrocarbon Double seal is recommended. For this application I will recommend Double Face to Face Seal with API Plan 53 C

Hot oil circulation pumps Mechanical seal failures API plan 62

Since Product is dirty, ECS is not proper selection. My recommendation will be Double Seal in Tandem (Inboard Seal Hard Face combination) with Plan 53 (You may choose between A'B or C in which you are comfortable)

Mechanical seal and API Plan for desalted Crude Oil centrifugal pumps (Temperature: 150ºC)

For this temperature Pusher Type seal also will work better. Since pump condition is not known , I suggest to go for Stationary Pusher Type seal.

Double mechanical seal for hydrocarbon pumps

OISD 125 Clause 4.4.1C recommends Double Seal for C4 and higher hydrocarbon. I will recommend double Face to Face seal with Plan 53 C

    Help with Selecting Seal Type.

I do not have direct experience for similar application. Only point I would like to mention is -- Please go for Stationary Seal.

    Selecting Appropriate Piping Plan

API has given general guideline for providing flushing in different conditions. You will have to evaluate and decide which API Plan is best suited for your requirement. My choices are as bellow 1. I prefer API PLAN 13 over PLAN 11. In case of Plan 11 flushing liquid impinges on the seal...

Seal failure in Waxy 65 Hydrocarbon.

In Plan 53 A compatible barrier fluid is used. the barrier fluid is to be selected by user. the reason why Plan 53 A will help is - the inboard seal will get lubrication from barrier fluid, instead of process fluid.

Seal failure in Waxy 65 Hydrocarbon.

In Plan 52 , liquid between the Inboard seal faces are process liquid. In the beginning till proper bedding in of the faces take place there is a chance of seal leakage. After sometime normally it reduces. I suggest instead of Plan 52 if you go for Plan 53 A, you may not face similar problem.

    Extreme Temperature Rotary Seal

It is possible to solve your problem by providing a double seal. Do you have enough space oto mount a double seal.between inboard seal and vessel cavity long throat bush can be given to reduce temperature in seal area. I suggest that please provide shaft diameter and axial space available.

    seal plan change

    1. You can go for Natural Draft Air Cooler. 2. Since Temperature is only 50 deg C, Barrier fluid temperature may not go above 70 deg C. if it is acceptable to you , it is not necessary to go for barrier fluid cooling. 3. Plan 76 is normally recommended for volatile liquid, therefore it should...

Is there any corelation between seal plan and nozzle loading criteria???

I think there is no correlation between nozzel load criteria and seal plan.

    Agitator Double mechanical seal Failure.

In all Mechanical Seals one part will be stationary and other part will be rotating. Stationary Seals are the Mechanical Seals in which Springs are Stationary. Rotating Seals are the Mechanical Seals in which Springs are stationary. I am not able to upload the sketch, therefore request you...

    Agitator Double mechanical seal Failure.

I see that Mechanical Seal is rotating seal (Spring is rotating) Stationary Seals perform better when there is vibration. I see there is bearing in the cartridge. Therefore vibration should not matter much as bearing will control run out. My opinion is First you change the API Plan to...

    Agitator Double mechanical seal Failure.

Please find enclosed comparison of API Plan 53 A, Plan 53 B and Plan 53 C. In API Plans A and B barrier fluid pressure is maintained at about 2 kg/cm 2 above maximum vessel pressure. Due to this outboard seal is subjected to maximum pressure during stand still as well running condition...

    Agitator Double mechanical seal Failure.

From the drawing it is clear that Vessel is top entry . Therefore only pressure variation is coming on the seal. Leakage is mainly due to pressure variation. I will suggest that you go for API Plan 53 C which will maintain constant differential pressure across the inboard seal faces and your...

    Seal Plan 53A and 53B

In Plan 53 C no gas is being used, hence there is no problem of gas mixing with Nitrogen
  18. gyaneshwarp

    Seal Plan 53A and 53B

I will recommend that you go for API Plan 53 C . This does not require Nitrogen for pressurization. Also it maintains almost constant pressure on Inboard Seal.

Best solution for Oil to 180¦C

    1. If cost is not consideration, metal bellow seal will be better. It avoids dynamic elastomer. API Plan 11, 62. 2. Pusher type seal with viton elastomer also will be OK. If pump has jacket cooling Plan 02, 52 will be OK.

    Seal Plan 52

Plan 52 is non pressurised plan. The Pot pressure in normal condition is approximately flare pressure. Switch setting is generally at 0.7 bar pressure. In view of this I would recommend that whatever is maximum stuffing box pressure, if a pressure gauge is selected for that range should be...
