From what I understand, I can get the plating thickness for electroless nickel down to .0005 inches. I am planning on plating a machined aluminum part. However, I've been told that I have to initially plate the part with a base metal, such as copper, before I can apply the nickel. Is that...
Hello,
I am evaluating a design that uses a silicone o-ring as a bumper. The o-ring has a 2 mm diameter and compresses 30% to 50% under load.
Can anyone tell me if 50% compression will cause any problems such as a permanent set in this type of material?
Advice is appreciated. Thanks.
Thanks again yanish for the plastic info.
Does anyone have experience with molding silicone and expected tolerances for the a thin frame about 1" x .6" with a square cross sectional thickness of about 0.75"?
Thanks yanish,
My part is a thin frame about 1" x .6" with a square cross sectional thickness of about 0.75". It sounds like I may fall within the .005" shrinkage. We just need to get the part prototyped before production. Thanks again.
Hello,
I am checking tolerances on plastic and elastomeric parts. Is +/-.004 inches a REALISTIC tolerance for molded silicone? The mold can easily be machined to those tolerances, but what can I expect for the final product?
Also, can I also hold those tolerances for molded thermoplastic...
