    Contraction joints in slab

Thanks to all, I agree with jike - the best solution is probably compromise between two points - slab-on-grade and topping without control joints. The topping will be bonded to the precast slab but not too thickly. jb66

    Contraction joints in slab

I have to design storage building with 4 floors, 100x100´ (lxw), 85´height with using of prefabricated concrete elements. The posts and girders are in 20´x20´grid, ceilings could be from prestressed hollow panels (thickness 12´´) with concrete slab (membrane) (th. 3,5´´) on the top of the...

    Unheated Building with Slab-on-Grade

JAE ... yes, I thought thickened slab strips, sorry for my english. These strips could be in spacing cca 8´x 8´, 12´´ deep and 6´´ wide. If the slab would be reinforced with mat near of upper surface and the "ribs" as well (it is enough one strip of the mat vertical in the middle ), so I...

    Unheated Building with Slab-on-Grade

I think that is better to use granular fill which depth depends on quality of subsoil and the slab reinforce by ribs (my experience). If the internal construction of swimming pool is sensitive to heaving it is necessary to solve very well dilatation between floor slab and the walls. In extremal...

    Taipei 101

I think that engineers are not sportsmen and engineering is not sportground. It means - to own some record in this branch is very good but it musn´t be the first impulse I want to achieve. Maybe I´m too much conservative but I´m sure that the first should be to design the construction which is...

    Corrosion of concrete piles

Ron, thank you very much for your helpfull advise. At first time I´ve seen the chemistry I verified the values of acidity, hardness and dissolved gases but all were confirmed again. It seemed to be incompatibility between acidity (weakly acid) and rather high content of CO2. I´m not chemist I...

    Corrosion of pile

Does anybody know if is it necessary to use secondary protection of concrete for piles in underground water which contens 83 mg/l CO2 aggressive(0,0083% per weight unit)or if is it possible to take only resistant basic material (concrete)? Water is acid (6,1 pH) and very hard. Thanks.

    Corrosion of concrete piles

I thing chemistry is OK, water is acid (6,1 pH), very hard and contens CO2 - I´m not sure if we use similar units - 83 mg/l in european units means 0,0083% CO2 per weight unit. Regards jb66

    Dynamic module Es,dyn

Thanks to AlohaBob, you are right of course but I´d like to know how can I calculate Es, dyn or how can I determine its value. Do you know?

    Dynamic module Es,dyn

Does anyone know something about dynamic module Es,dyn used for design of footing of wind energy plant? I´d like to know what is relation between Es, stat and Es,dyn. Thanks.
