When to request mechanical run test for API 610 pump

Hi stonetech - not quite sure what you mean here. Are you thinking of buying a pump or have you already got a pump and you want to test it? If you are buying a pump then you must INSIST on witnessing a full operational test AT THE FACTORY/SUPPLIER before you accept it to make sure it meets all...

Published "standards/best practices" in way of Screw Pumps & pipin

Another thing to bear in mind is that, should the PRV jam or stick for whatever reason, the discharge piping MUST be able to withstand well above "normal" operating pressures. In some circumstances it may also be prudent to install two PRVs. Lube oil is not too much of problem should it leak as...

    Magntically coupled pumps

Mainly used in small applications, particularly in the chemical industry where there is high risk of corrosion and where leakage would also be undesirable. In the drawing "A" is the internal magnet connected directly to the impeller. "B" is the pump front casing, "C" the impeller, "D" external...

Low-friction coating to improve pumping efficiency?

You don't give us enough information to be able to fully answer your question. The important information is "what are you pumping, what sort of volume"? As has been said smal pump applications would not really benefit from an internal coating. We used to coat eight foot diameter Thames water...

    Impeller/casing gap

It would be useful to know what pump this is. From your description you are refering to the gap between the impeller OD where it discharges into the casing volute? If this is the case I would say that 2mm is a very small gap. Or are you talking about wear-ring clearance?

    axial or centrifugal pump??

But this primarily addressing "pump specific speed" not the issue whether a pump is defined as centrifugal or axial. However it does make two statements, which support my last post: Radial flow impellers develop head principally through centrifugal force. An axial flow or propeller pump with a...

    axial or centrifugal pump??

OK. Makes me feel a bit better to know there is so much confusion on the subject. I do not believe that an axial flow anything, whether it's a pump or compressor, is "centrifugal" as they do not reply on centrifugal force to accelerate the pumped liquid/air. Axial compressors are rotating...

    axial or centrifugal pump??

Hey guys, having a "senior moment"! Rather than axial/centrifugal I was looking at axial as meaning positive displacement, screw etc. My drive is indeed "axial" with one propeller supported within the "jet" casing, pulling the water from the front and ejecting it at high velocity from the rear...

    axial or centrifugal pump??

My full sized jet boat had a centrifugal pump - huge volume through a tapered nozzle. I don't think you'll get the volume from a positive displacement - they are more a pressure provider.

Does a slow-speed recip need to be grouted in?

If you don't grout, any movement/shock from the pump will be transferred to the pipework and its supports. This could lead to premature failure of piping and supports. I would certainly recommend that all machinery be properly installed, levelled and grouted as I am sure the manufacturer recommends.

Back pressure problem in centrifugal pump

http://www.medtronic.com/cardsurgery/arrested_heart/centrifugal_pump.html Have a look at this page. It looks like a centrifugal pump and obviously works. As a matter of interest, why do you have to "re-invent" a blood pump? There are dozens of them out there.

    Main Centrifugal pump manufacturers????

There are a couple here for you to look at. http://search.globalspec.com/productfinder/findproducts?query=pump%20manufacturers&se=ggka&setag=FLOW

    textbook on vibrations

My favourite are the "Simplified Handbook of Vibration Analysis" (Vol 1 and 2) by Arthur R Crawford.

    Main Centrifugal pump manufacturers????

My I suggest you type "pump manufacturers" into your internet search engine, and press "enter"?

    force for press fit ?

0.023" interference on a 1/2" part is HUGE. A standard interference would be less than 0.002" so I suspect you've got a point in the wrong place!

1:8 tapered shaft. What does that mean?

Rather like we indicate a hill steepness here in UK. For every eight in length, you lose 1 in diameter. A simple example, if your taper is over an 8mm length and your shaft is 10mm at the "thick" end, it will be 9mm at the other.

Actuators keep leaking even after changing of parts

Er - hello samlloyd1881!! You posted your question on 24th. October. It is now 1st November. You have many questions to answer to help us to help you so WHERE ARE YOU? It's no use posting problems on these forums if you then don't take any further interest or part in the following discussions...

Actuators keep leaking even after changing of parts

Is this a pus/pull or rotary actuator? You say your company manyfacturers these. What is your roll that you are having to ask these questions? Can you post a cross section drawing indicating where these leaks are? Where are these actuators installed?

    Balancing Axial Thrust Devices

Is there any chance you could post the pump cross section here so that we know what we are dealing with? Most multistage pumps are designed so that the impeller and volute configuration also helps to cancel out axial thrust, so with this, and a balance disc/drum, there should be very little...

    Pump Packing Storage

Hello again "ddurdle". Can you answer some of the questions asked of you please, so that we can help you better? It is no use posting a question and then ignoring it! Makes us feel we're wasting our time here!
