Hello,
Are there any means to compute properties of produced fluids (assumed water-cut, API gravity, black oil model) for a range of pressures and temperatures? I need to use the viscosity, density and sp. heat values for a CFD simulation.
What is the application? Do you have a sketch you can share?
Try to provide some information related to your application that will get more meaningful responses. For example, loads (static, dynamic), potential failure modes, environment, temperatures range, applicable codes and standards...
Thank you all for sharing a wealth of insight and experience. This thread has added to my knowledge immensely and made me wary of using the widely available nomographs. The inherent complexity involved in fluid flow phenomena is underscored in multiple posts.
Which one of Handbook of...
I have looked into the multi-physics simulations and gather that it would be a lot of effort and the results may not be worth the time and money spent.
What would be the largest permissible axial deflection at the OD of Thrust Runner? The working surface on the Thrust Runner is ~15" OD x 6.5" ID.
The tilt pads should allow rotation about any axis passing through the pivot (as in the pad has 2 rotational degrees of freedom).
Mike,
We use pressure mapping obtained from one of the bearing analysis codes to generate the FEA pressure loads on the face of the pad. So, there is no "fluid-film...
I see. I didn't know that.
Ok, so the axes of rotation for both the curved surfaces need to be co-planar.
Also, radius of curvature of these surfaces is much greater than the "height" of the rings in my solid model.
Is there any requirement that the rotational axes need to lie close to or...
The attached image shows the different parts of the assembly. The 2 axes are X and Y. The vertical axis is Z.
In what sense are the grooves offset? What changes would I need so the structure behaves as...
IRstuff and Mike,
Thank you for the comments.
I only need very small rotations, like 2° max, but I need it to function as a 2-axis gimbal within that range. The arrangement is intended to be used for equalizing the compressive load acting on top face by adjusting the orientation if the...
Please view the uploaded PDF file. Will this arrangement work as a 2-axis gimbal? If yes, is there a software to perform kinematic (rigid-body) simulation of this arrangement? Can Unigraphics NX 6.0 do a motion simulation for this?
zdas04, thank you for the patient explanation.
Your middle paragraph indicates that the limiting factor that determines the maximum velocity is unique to each application in a very broad sense. Some of the factors that I have seen quoted or used are cost (material, power requirements)...
Latexman,
I use the nomograph to determine the "recommended or allowed maximum flow velocity through a pipe". Feel free to make fun of me if you know a "fluid flow calculation" that will allow you to compute this.
The related question has been posed many time on this forum, but I have not...
Wow, 3 responses to my question and all of them smartass comments. I get it, OK. All of you are indeed very smart and very very funny. This bit of info may be trivial all you MVPs, but please resist the urge to make fun of a naive question.
All I am asking for is the name of the standard or code.
I often need to size piping/tubing to allow highest flow-rate for heat transfer purposes, and I am not very familiar with Piping or Pipelines-related industry standards.
So, I have to turn to web-based sources for information. Many of the supplier websites recommend the use of the "pipe/flow...
Engineering Design: Synthesis of Stress Analysis and Materials Engineering by Joseph H. Faupel and Franklin E. Fisher is also an excellent book, and is available use at a very good price.

corus, true. I apologize for not using the correct term. Not very familiar with the terminology.
Will application of cyclic symmetry boundary conditions assume that the hole features exist all along the periphery?
Thank you.
