    AS3600_Circular pile shear capacity

Hi, Has anyone done any circular piles shear capacity check using AS3600? Can anyone please shed any light?

    PT Slab Property Modifier

What Slab property modifier do you guys use for PT slab modelling in ETABS, note model will be for lateral analysis, not slab design. Thanks

    Etabs_Interpretation of diaphragm forces

Hi, Can anyone please explain how to interpret the results obtained from display/diaphragm forces? I am getting a mixture of positive and negative forces at different nodes of the same floor for wind load applied in 'Y' direction, which doesn't make much sense to me. Will appreciate if...

Sequential Analysis with Etabs 2016 16.2.0

Has anyone done a sequential analysis with ETABS 2016 16.2.0 ? It lakes a lot longer and eventually crashes. This model used to work fine with earlier versions of ETABS 2016. Thanks

Slab to Jumpformed wall connection using centrally located inserts

thread507-319174 Hi, This thread is a continuation to the thread above. I have designed the slabs as simply supported and want to connect them to jumpformed wall using central inserts. Do I need to use equivalent number of centrally placed inserts to match my bottom bars? What do I need to...

Modelling Precast Shear Walls in Etabs

thread802-349319 On the Thread above regarding modelling precast shear walls in ETABS It reads: "1. Model the wall with shell elements roughly. In order to simulate with detail the joints, you can modify the property modifiers of the elements close to the joint only. 2. Then, after the...

    ETABS 2013 _AS1170.4 Response Spectrum

Hi, Did some hand checks this morning. Results look fine.I chose a bigger Time period for Equivalent Force Method which gave me low base shear. But still base shear from response spectrum is bigger than that obtained from ESA. That's why I was surprised at first because in all my previous...

    ETABS 2013 _AS1170.4 Response Spectrum

Anyone using AS1170.4 response spectrum in ETABS 2013? Results I am getting is not convincing, about twice that of static calc.please coment.

ETABS Shell Stresses_ Difference between top/bottom/maximum stress

Hi, When looking at wall stress plots for direct stress do you guys look at top/bottom stresses or maximum stresses for reinforcement design? Can anyone shed any light on their differences? Thanks

    ETABS Walking Colum

Thanks guys. I have tried modelling the columns as walls. I am taking the shear force at the transition level as the diaphragm force at that level, though another engineer at my work suggests we should be taking the shear difference between this level and the level below. This would give me a...

Design of stair supported on walls

Dear BAretired, RCC (Reinforced Cement Concrete) is a very common term used for reinforced concrete in my country. The stairs as well as the stairs are of reinforced concrete.

Design of stair supported on walls

The stairs are 2m long. Floor to floor spacing is 3.0m and there are a total no. of eight storeys.

Design of stair supported on walls

Hi, one of the walls form the lift core and the other the stair well. So, there are chances that their displacements might no be in sync. So probably it's better to design the stair as cantilever from any of the walls.

Design of stair supported on walls

Hi, I am designing a stair supported by RCC walls on both sides. Now, in a few articles I saw that connecting stairs to walls on both sides is not a good practice in case of seismic design. Any comments regarding this will be appreciated. Thanks.

    Garge load on floor slab

The design would be in accordance with Eurocode. Eurocode suggests 2.5 kpa uniform load and 10 to 20 KN axle load on a 100mm wide square surface 1.8 m apart. So i was wondering whether using the 2.5 kpa uniform load alone would be appropriate for design. Also applying the axle loads on floor...

    Garge load on floor slab

Hi, We are designing a 6 storey residential building with its basement and ground floor to be used as garage/ parking area. Can anybody please provide me with some guidelines regarding how to apply the imposed/live loads due to vehicles on the slabs. Thanks in advance.

    Equipment damage during SPT

Hi, we are doing Standard penetration Test for a depth of 35. The rope controlling the hammer gave away after reaching a depth of 22m. My question is can we still continue with the same bore hole for the remaining depth after the equipment is repaired?
