Thanks, at this point the cylinder is solid (with a few surface features machined into it, but for arguments sake lets say it's smooth). Outside temperature is uniform when in operation. The ends are restrained by a spring loaded seal, so there is an applied load but it can expand.
Thanks for...
My applogies if this is a repost, but the search function isn't working.
I know the most accurate way to calculate the change in diameter of a cylinder due to thermal expansion is to use an FEA, but I don't have access to software at the moment. I want to know how good an approximation I will...
Thanks for the tips, but we decided to go with a belt drive. We have the room and it's much cheaper. I don't know why we didn't think of it before.

I need to find a step up gear head for an electric motor. All the catalogues I've looked at so far only have gear reducers. But I need a medium powered high speed application and it seems the simplest solution would be a gear box with a higher output rpm than input.
Can anyone point me to a...
I'm relatively new to Ansys and working in a small office, I have no experts to refer to.
I have an automotive valve train part I'm trying to do a combined thermal-structural analysis on. The problem I have is that I need to varry the temperature loading with time. I know how to use tables to...
