Since Paydirt does not require the reference points to be
outside the limits of data being digitized, any well spaced
points can be used.
I prefer to use existing features as reference points since
a design change will not cause the points to move as a
parking lot corner would.
Fire hydrants...
First, I am not really sure I understand why you need
to inport the curb line. I have not used the current Paydirt
program, but I think you can import the curb line, then
copy it to a sub grade adjustent layer, (there will be no elevation associated with the layer, only a thickness that you will...
I my region (the Atlanta, GA area), most of the granite quarried has a density of around 150 pounds per cubic
foot (pcf)
Most pavers use 110 pounds per square yard per inch of thickness (or 146.67 pounds pcf) for estimating graded aggregate base. This seems to work well.
Talk to your local...
this is a little out of my field but, As I understand capping layers, they (and there are several different types)
are not designed to be a "wearing course". They are intended
to strengthen the sub-grade before base material is placed.
i think that a layer of graded aggregate base (gab) would...
You have asked a lot of questions in a very short post.
I had a project in the the early '70s where we dried up
wells within a half mile of of the project.
The streams, rivers, springs, etc., must be studied
prior to any blasting activity. I would STRONGLY
recommend that you employ a...
I totally agree with BigH.
If no moitoring of the topsoil stripping was done,
then you can not be sure that 12" of soil was striped.
Shrinkage (in my opinion) does not enter into the equation
since the topsoil should not be be densly compacted.
Also, I cannot picture a site where all of the...

AMEN
ptmoss makes another good point.
Basically, if you can't do it, don't teach others.
What this means is, experience in the field is necessary
to accuarately estimate a sitework project.
Using "canned" priceing can lead to total disaster.
You must understand the sequence, the...
Steve makes some very good points, the legal waiver, the graphics, the items included in the estimate, shrink/swell factors, etc. The least accurate of all the items being estimated is the sub-strata. In our area the owner is seldom interested enough in the volume of the sub-strata as he is...
I base my fee upon the estimated time it will take
me to do the takeoff. Since I have been doing sitework
estimates since 1967, I can (usually) look at the plan
and almost imediately know how long the estimate will take.
Base your fee on what you think your time, your hardware,
and your...
I have been making my living as a "sitework" consultant
for twenty years.
I not only do earthwork studies, but do site utilities
pavement, curb, and, sometimes landscape takeoffs.
I don't know what software or how much experience you have.
Before I started the consulting service I did my...
I have just out pulled the last hair on my head.
Here is the problem...
I have a GTCO Rollup II digitizing tablet and am trying
use it on a laptop with no serial port. I purchased a USB to serial adapter by Aten modle number uc232a.
It will not comunicate with the computer except when I use the...
