Stepper motor issues

I have an application where I use a stepper motor to rotate an object plus/minus 90 degrees. The motor is set to rotate a number of step that are slightly more than 90 deg and stop against a mechanical stop. However, it has happened quite often lately that it "jerks" back a lot (everything form...

Difference between tires with different speed rating?

I see. That more or less what I thought. I still wonder about if there is a correlation between speed rating and rubber hardness. Also, when comparing test done by magazines etc. the result often don't seem to be the same. To me it seems not uncommon that a tire getting a top result in one test...

Difference between tires with different speed rating?

Yesterday while searhing the internet for new tires to my car, I started thinking about the speed rating of the tires. I have always just bought acc. to manuf. If a tire of same brand/modell and size has different speed rating, what in the tire construction differ? Will factors like wear, noise...

    Material advice needed

Yes, to much copper impairs the weldability I belive.

    Material advice needed

Well, strength is not that important, say above 400-500 MPa in ultimate strenght. Cost of the material itself is not really of importancy, no limitations there. About delivery shapes; Bars of about 20-50 mm.

    Material advice needed

What I im looking for is a material with the following properties: High density (>8.4 g/cm^3), Low permability (<1.02), easily machined and good weldability. I do of course also search the internet, Matweb etc. and have found some interesting alternatives, but I thought it might be worth to ask...

    yet more ISO tolerancing

I use this ISO-tolerance calc. Nice to have on your desktop (excel-sheet). In Swedish though, but you will figure it out (haven't had the energy to translate it). http://www.megaupload.com/?d=WEQV0MOC

    Go No-Go Guage for Ring

Mike, that was a nice solution.. Just curious, any problem with noise with such a device?

    High Mileage Engine Oil

Ok, a "swelling" component sounds good, though i don't know how much such an component really works. Does a HM-engine really benefit from more ZDDP-additives?

    High Mileage Engine Oil

A rather simple(?) question, after reading the thread about high-milage oil; in what way does an high-milage oil differ from "regular" oil?

    Same engine, completely different sound

Slightly off topic.. While i was doing my diploma thesis, i had the pleasure to spend alot of time at SAAB and Volvo (engine and earo sections). The aerodynamicists often said that they and the designers had different opinions, and that almost always the designers got it their way. The cheif...

    Spark Plug Gap & effect

Agree with what is said above. However, as i interpret the original question (ie not considering energy req.); bigger is better.

    Spark Plug Gap & effect

I just want to add that increased gap tolerates leaner mixture without misfire.

    Spark Plug Gap & effect

ok..as usual what i say is more or less a guess. An increased gap would probably increase the burn rate slightly, but i am more or less sure that it would help alot if the mixture is lean.

    Bearing Arrangement

A sketch would be really nice.

what is your opinion on my intake

Pat, i agree. However, the design was due an aestetical point of view but the question technical.

what is your opinion on my intake

I think you missed the point Pat. I believe it is supposed to look "cool" and hopefully work as well? I´m far from being an expert on this, but my guess is that your plenum will work ok. I guess a volume of about 1.5-2 times the engines is normal (not sure about this though, just guessing).

Coasting in N with engine off

The shafts uses ball-bearings and the gears plain bearings if i'm not misstaken.

Coasting in N with engine off

I thought the gears (on both shafts, are they not always in contact!?) always spun whenever any of the shaft were turned. I admit i haven't seen many boxes, and english is not my nativ language, so maby i am mistaken.
