    HGL calculations

Thanks for the advice so far. I'm going to go through the procedures in HEC-22 this weekend. gbam thanks for the reference. SiPaul, I did what you suggested for HGL up through the pipes and junctions as you suggested. And from what I understand so far, this works fine until you get to a...

    HGL calculations

I'm doing HGL calcs for a series of storm sewer pipes. It is my understanding that you need to check for both inlet control and outlet control of each storm sewer segment (from one junction to the next). For outlet control I am adding friction losses and junction losses to my starting HGL from...

tap into box culvert with RCP

Thanks for the advice. I'll do an HGL analysis on the box culvert and go from there.

tap into box culvert with RCP

I'm working on intersection drainage improvements. A double 6 by 6 culvert is running under the north leg of the intersection. Just to the east of the intersection, the box has a 45 degree turn in it. Flow is from northeast, through the turn, and to the west. I am considering tapping into...

    drainage ditches in coastal areas

In this particular case, a neighborhood association went to a construction services/engineering firm and asked them to come up with drainage improvements. They did what they were asked, and I believe they designed the improvements to the best of their abilities. And in theory, on paper, it...

    drainage ditches in coastal areas

There is not a free outfall. As far as dicksewerrat's suggestion, I think that lining could work to a certain degree. However, this area is a beach resort, and aesthetically I don't think it would fly. And for an important clarification...I should have caught this before... The purpose of...

    drainage ditches in coastal areas

In an effort to reduce the standing water problem, the ditches were raised slightly (filled in). In theory this should slightly reduce the frequency at which the water table is above the bottom of the ditches, but there is still standing water on a regular basis. It didn't appear to make much...

    drainage ditches in coastal areas

Thanks for getting back w/ me. The neighborhood is already fully developed and building the area up would not be financially realistic. As it is now, the ditches go to a storm sewer pipe, which then goes into the canal. The outlet of the storm sewer pipe is submerged.

    drainage ditches in coastal areas

location: East Coast, within 50-150 yards of beach front, extremely flat terrain, water table very close to ground background: A neighborhood association paid a firm to design and build some drainage improvements. These 'improvements' included ditches to carry water out of the neighborhood...
