    problems with hk40 castings

Hi Barnyj74, Can you explain what's the process of your casting? Is it investment cast, sand cast or shell cast? The main idea is to fix the problem in the foundry melting department. I don't think it's a good idea to weld or deburr all the red spots and weld repir. It's a reaction that's...

Problems with gas in Material P91

I think the problem you have is the coating material that applied to the sand mold, try different one with black graphite. Other suggestion is making sure to fire the mold after coating so there is no moisture in the mold. I hope these suggestion will help. SDJVAR

    Misrun and Investment castings

I am agreed with the information provided by Goahead. However, I think you have to provide more information on part configuration, how many on the set-up? type of set-up, shell system. etc.. I had poured Inconnel 713 in air melt furnace at 1900°F mold temp and apprx. 2725°F metal temp and I...

    Calculating transition temperatures

Thank you everybody. I have tried to come up with some equationsbut when I test them the results never came out correctly. If the equation work on one alloy then it will not work on different alloy if the content of the element change or included in the alloy (such as W, Ti). Thank you for all...

Glass Mould Material & Glass Mould Metallurgy

Hi KINI, Most glass mold materials are made out of Nickel material. Their hardness range as HR/C 26-30, 32-36, 36-40,and 40-44. There are some also cast out of colbalt base alloy/ stellite 12. Nickel uses on Glass Mould material is easy to work with and material blen real good together. My...

Waukesha 88 (ASTM A494, Gr CY5SnBiM) corrosion data

majordud, I am getting closer and closer even I Still have some problem with the casting. It's just a minor gas problem. I will let you when I solve the problem with this alloy. Sonny Tran

    Calculating transition temperatures

Hi GRoberts, I am new in this area and I read your Thread but I am not sure what's the transition temperature? Is it the melting temp and pouring temp. I am trying to find way to calculate the melting of any base alloy with different or variable elements. Is there such a formula that you can use...

Waukesha 88 (ASTM A494, Gr CY5SnBiM) corrosion data

Hi Heidi, Waukesha 88 is a Nickel-base, non-magnetic, non-galling, high corrossion resisting alloy. It's good to run against Stainless Steel without galling or seizing. It can not be heat treated and this alloy is very difficult to weld unless to preheat at 1100°f before welding. It's more...

    information on Waukesha alloy 88

I am having some problems on Nickel Chromium Alloy 88. The material specification is ASTM A-494 (CY5SnBiM). This alloy when being melted is very smokey due to the content of Bismuth and Tin (3-5%). I was pouring this alloy in the investment casting process and the castings always had big...
